Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit gets my vote. Damn, that game was like reading a good book; Had to finish it as soon as possible :P

I liked The Witcher. The plot is nothing exceptional, but it's implemented really well.

Unreal for immersive and emotion. No interaction with friendly chars except the nali, but you learn the plot and characters through books found in the game.

Mafia (the first one). I played it intensively and finished it within a week but it left a lasting impression.

Digital: A Love Story would seem to satisfy the "plot based emotional game" requirements. Also free.

Metal Gear Solid series.

God DAMN I love this game!

I'd put my vote for Shadow of the Colossus.

I'll have to throw my vote in with Heavy Rain here.

Immersive? You only ever play real, human characters with believable motivations, personalities, etc. and that was enough to draw me in to the experience. (Of course, different people will have different things that immerse them in the experience)

Plot-based? Yep, the closest it gets to being non-linear is that main characters can die/lose if you screw up and that leads to multiple endings.

Real emotions? Like I said, all realistic, all human, and the writers really know how to play with your emotions.

And it's a game. Works for me.

Getting a girlfriend. It has an outrageous subscription fee, though.

At least spell my name right.

I would warn anyone who absolutely detests quicktime events in any circumstance off of Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain. I don't mind it so much since, due to the nature of the game, the events are integral parts of the gameplay, rather than thrown at you randomly mixed in with gameplay where such events never show up.

I liked Indigo Prophecy, for the most part, but I did get the impression that the game wasn't quite finished when released. It feels like the ending is very compressed to meet their release date.

I'd vote for the Mass Effect series.
