Showing the full date in the savegame selector.
« on: February 21, 2011, 07:11:15 pm »

So, we all know the save labeling and selecting system is atrocious when seasonal backup saves are used.

Is there any .ini I can edit that makes the savegame menu act like this?:
Code: [Select]
Nazamolath, Dwarf Fortress
region1-win-374--spr-375______________________Camade Inala, 1st Moonstone 375

In other words, show the full date instead of just the year? That would make it okay to deal with the save filename system.

Guerilla Burialgears absently tucks the child's rock into his pack and turns to leave for good; his head hung low. His words trail behind him as he disappears over the ridge. It is a haunting whisper, quickly stolen away by the wind: "All burn..."

You cannot do this through modding, but I do like this idea, perhaps you could post it on the suggestions forum.

"We all know" that? I use seasonal backups and I don't have a clue what your talking about. Probably because I don't understand why are you trying to go backwards in time so much by loading "region1-win-374" and then trying to load "region1-win-374-spr-375".
The 95+% of the time I want to load my most recent save I load "region1". If I hit a bug/siege/whatever and I want to go back to my last autosave I delete my "region1" folder, and rename a copy of my most recent autosave to "region1". If I want to go back farther I delete (or rename) any backups that are newer then the backup I'm starting from. "Region1" will always be the file that is at the start of the list when I go to load a game, so I have to pay exactly zero attention to what's going in the save selector menu. What exactly is atrocious?

Alas, we modders do not have all the might of the Toad, and this is beyond out powers.
