Oh, yeah, another good one. Soil moisture levels are going to be tracked for purposes of irrigation fairly soon, so why not have occasional landslides?

suck it

5.56 kg.  Of stone, not even metal.  And the woman it hit apparently lived for twenty more years afterwards.

Yeah, meteors do strike, but they tend to be fairly small, not the sort of thing that creates giant craters out in the desert, or even a minable amount of metal.

(There was a much larger one that struck Siberia about a hundred years ago, completely devastating the forest, but nobody was anywhere near that one... and it didn't leave a crater, and the whole thing exploded, so there was no minable stone or metal left over.)

Frankly, we're better off trying to have lightening strikes in the game, since they're a lot less rare than meteor strikes that don't burn up before they hit the earth.

What, you mean the secret alien landing site up in Tunguska, or however that's spelled?

Nah, you're right, meteor strikes big enough to do serious damage don't occur all that often.  I was more aiming at the 'they never ever happen' crowd.

Not bad ideas, I can see them all being incredibly annoying but I guess that's the point.

Not really. They're just something else to factor into the design of your fortress, like the old cave-in rules; as long as you know about them in advance you can design around them.

If you figure out the science to how it happens, or how it triggers, you can design to utilize it.  I imagine playing atop a large mountain, and finding out what triggers rockslides.  A large siege comes by?  Time to start yodeling!

Just a note on meteors, something about 1-2m in diameter could make a crater 100s of meters of perhaps kilmoters across (I'm not sure exactly). If a meteor struck that was large enough to be worth mining it probably already depopulated a continent atleast.

I have given some though to tornadoes/hurricanes. Ultimately I support the idea, you should be warned if your going into a hurricane or tornado prone area. And before a tornado arrives you should get an early warning which pauses the game and states "The weathers getting bad" or something like that. And then after a while (Short enough to be fun, long enough to give you time) a mobile cloud of Deadly Dust type cloud, possibly with a random name, comes out of the edge of the map and moves in a predictable direction, if it's moving towards your base it isn't going to suddenly go 180 and back to the ocean, but it might keep going 20 degrees and miss your fortress. Might make it to your fort, might miss it by a long shot. You never know until it arrives.

Thing is, tornadoes don't move in predictable directions. Sometimes they do go 180. But, yeah, I like the idea of tornadoes myself. As far as warning goes, tornadoes come at a certain time of year and are immediately presaged by rain and hail. Speaking of which, hailstorms would be wonderful.

By the way, I design table top RPGs and other games. You can buy some.

More like:
The spinning hail hits the Woodcutter in the head, jamming the skull through the brain and tearing the brain!
A tendon in the skull has been torn!

And yes, that would be awesome.
