0300 27 August 1943
The Americans start out with their usual attack on Khabarovsk, and the Germans hit Zhitomir and Molodeczno. None of these attacks are anything to worry about.
1400 28 August
Fighting continues. The Red Army makes progress in its defenses.
1600 29 August
Nothing to report.
0000 1 September
The fascist dogs have fifty divisions battering themselves against the stalwart defenders of the Motherland. I don't see how they can keep this up.
2300 2 September
Victory in Molodeczno. At this point a counterattack into Lida would be a good move, I think, so forces are moving to do so.
0000 4 September
The capitalist pigs receive their monthly beatdown. When it comes time to finally evict the Americans from our glorious Communist republic, I'm probably going to bring a bunch of units from the Western Front over here. If I have, say, 96, I can attack with 24 (the maximum possible with a field marshal and HQ) pretty constantly, and even if I'm low on actual numbers at any given time, I'll be able to rotate forces through to wear the defenders down.
0000 7 September
Forces to attack Lida are only just now getting into place. The Germans launch an attack on Vinnitsa, so I'm going to hit Balta to give them something else to think about.
0400 10 September
Attacks begin on Balta and Lida. Please forgive the big picture and the wrong date; I didn't think to take one when the attack started, or to crop it so you wouldn't notice.
In Lida, we have 53 divisions against their 32. All are infantry.
In Balta, we have 39 divisions against their 28, many of which are non-German and therefore hardly count.
1500 11 September
Attacks continue, looking particularly effective in Balta. Zhitomir remains under attack (as it has for a very long time), but rotating defenders is proving to be very important.
Three wings of fighters rotate to Finland to score some easy kills and experience against Portugese and Hungarian bombers.
2300 12 September
The Germans reinforce Balta, so I attack Mogilev-Podolski too. Again, forgive the wrong date.
0500 14 September
The Germans reinforce Lida, so I attack Wilno as well.
0000 15 September
Research into 1943-pattern infantry is complete, thus rendering our entire army obsolete again. Most of the claimed units are prioritized for upgrades and reinforcements; I'll make sure next time I play.
1900 17 September
Balta falls to Rokossovsky and company. There are a ton of battles going on right now:
0000 18 September
General Konev, one of our top armored commanders, is killed on the battlefield. He'll be hard to replace, and it's been a bad month for our generals' health.
1200 18 September
Lida falls, the Germans taking very heavy losses.
1000 19 September
Mogilev-Podolski falls!
2000 20 September
The Wilno attack isn't making much progress anymore, so it's called off.
0000 26 September
The last week has involved a lot of combat, but nothing worth mentioning here. It's mostly spoiling attacks from the Germans and the usual fight over Zhitomir (which is rapidly turning into this campaign's Stalingrad). That's all for this time. Winter's coming soon.
----
Strategically, I'm kind of surprised this is where we are. Despite the massive investment made in grinding down the Germans in the north, we're making much more obvious progress in the south, and at this point I think it might be wise to push on the Axis' minor allies until they break, Romania in particular. On top of that, winter is coming, which will make offensives in the north difficult; at the same time, the longer this war goes on, the longer it takes to rebuild our manpower for the next one. I guess we'll have to play it by ear. It might make sense to keep pushing around Lida, as the winter weather will really take a toll on the already-weakened German divisions.
