That General Sokolovskiy is quite something.  You really should give that general to some B12'er.  Next one to request a unit should get that one.

Actually, General Sokolovskiy seems to have done in real life exactly what he did in this game.

This brings us to a major strategic decision. It does appear that we've been able to halt the German advance in the north and even regain some ground, and in the south we were able to hold at least once concerted attack.

Now, with the intelligence I have available to me, I can't say for sure that we've entirely defanged the Wehrmacht. I wouldn't be surprised to find that they've kept some reserves. That said, we can do one of two things in the next few months:
  • Hold the current line, falling back further if necessary, and wait for September or so. By then we'll have reinforcements from the Far East and another twenty or maybe forty infantry divisions on the field, which will in turn give us a bit more breathing room.
  • Begin to make serious counterattacks now (or at least in the not-too-distant future). This requires roughly 2-1 odds against ground-down German troops, so the only place we can reasonably expect to make gains is in the north.

Either way, I don't intend to add too many more infantry divisions than sixty or eighty. After that, that present major IC investment will go into a smaller number of armored and mechanized divisions, and we'll begin building some naval units again, along with some reinforcements for the bloodied but certainly deserving VVS.

I'd advise making small counterattacks when possible, simply so that we have more land to give the Germans if they call up reinforcements.

What does the terrain look like in the north?

Oh, and until we defeat the Italians and permanently secure Turkey, or push the Amercans out of the Soviet Union, screw the navy.  Our main enemy is the Germans now, and a navy won't help us against them.

I say we should atleast invest in some small crusiers and transports so we can do some raids behind the Kraut's main line.
And lets do some counter attacks and add some fortifactions to fight the yanks and italians.

I think it is worth discussing our future naval plans right now, though, particularly since aircraft carriers are a roughly two-year build and we'll want a lot (i.e. 18 or 24) of those for the war with the Americans. Here's my plan for fleet composition:

  • Aircraft carriers - The main punch and invasion support units of the fleet.
  • Light cruisers - The main screening units, due to their relative durability, fantastic air defense, and capability to mount fancy systems like radar or spotting planes.
  • Destroyers - Secondary screening units for anti-submarine duties. Relatively small production runs.
  • Heavy cruisers, battlecruisers, or battleships - Dedicated invasion-support and convoy-escort units. Relatively small production runs.
  • Escort carriers - Dedicated convoy-escort and ASW units. Produced if necessary.

We can still wait a bit before investing in a navy, at least until we are sur Germany cannot win anymore.

I'd wait until September, then attack in the South if possible, to finish Germany's smaller allies and Turkey. As a bonys, it'd free all our Turkish divisions.

Also subs, cheap compared to the bigger stuff and we can simply dispatch them to harrass the US supply lines before we are able to fully dedicate ourselves to the war with them.

Actually, that's a good idea. The more we harass them, the more divisions we can get back from the Far East to crush the Wermacht Europe.

Also, I vote that we just keep going West until we hit the Atlantic Ocean. If we defeated Germany, we can defeat the rest.

I don't know that I want to get the Allies into the war while the Americans are still a problem: that gives us another navy and a half-- the British and the French-- to deal with.

Well, IMO the Americans can froze in Siberia as long as they wish. Once we got some subs done, it should be easy to keep them starving.

Oops, I forgot we had someone heading the navy.

Ok, you can have a couple submarines.  Spend the rest of the IC on tanks, planes, and artillery!

With aircraft carriers, can you manage their planes seperately?  If so, they seem like the best option, as updating planes is a priority, especially post-WWII

I expect to spend about 80-100IC on tanks and planes, 20 or so on naval units, and the remaining 40 from our current production peak on upgrades (we're a bit behind on that).

You don't get separate airplane units from carriers (though you do in Hearts of Iron 3), but the CAGs will upgrade as we research newer models. I'll need to have a look at our current aircraft carrier model to see if it's fast enough to enter serial production.
