This month, the aim in the south is to break the Germans at Beltsy. The aim in the north is to push due west from Kaunas to Memel. We might not encircle any German divisions with the degree of boldness such a move displays, but Memel and Mazirbe would be the first German territory taken in the war so far.
1200 3 February
Three more divisions roll off the production lines, deployed near Beltsy. Our available manpower has dropped below 1000, which is pretty wild considering where we started: several million men have been poured into the war effort.

The Germans make another futile attempt to capture Lida.
1300 5 February
Soviet troops occupy Kaunas and come under immediate counterattack.

The grind in Beltsy continues. Research into Breakthrough Priority doctrine is complete. The next technology is from 1945.

The Germans have been making attacks on Vinnitsa and Zhitomir in what might be an attempt to keep us honest, but they've been so unthreatening that I haven't considered them worth reporting.

Beltsy is probably one of the most frustrating assaults ever carried out. Oh, and the Americans have attacked Khabarovsk again.

Soviet troops in Kaunas beat back the German counterattack, taking about 3,000 losses and inflicting about 15,000.

General Malinovsky leads an attack on Siauliau.

Our monthly win in Khabarovsk.
2200 21 February
Germany commits to the defense of Beltsy. Soviet forces in Vinnitsa, though badly outnumbered, will launch an attack at the German flank to pin the reinforcements in place while Zhukov, Rokossovsky, Malinin, Bagramian, Romanenko, and many others complete the attack on Beltsy.
1500 26 February
Beltsy falls! What a win. As an aside, I'm pretty sure the casualty counter only works from the last time the game was loaded, so multiply the casualty figures below by three or four to get the real total. Honestly, I'd been expecting a bigger total.
0500 27 February
25 armored and motorized divisions, the spearhead of the attack, are holding Beltsy against the 65 divisions freed by the cessation of the magnificent pinning attack from Vinnitsa. Our reinforcements are inbound.
Siauliau falls. Two mountain divisions move in and immediately come under attack.

We launch an attack on Jelgava from Riga, about the first combat action those troops have been involved in since the initial German attacks almost a year ago.

Soviet troops in Beltsy repel the German counterattack.

Owing to manpower concerns, I've shifted our production around a little. More on that at the end.
We begin to attack Memel.

Khabarovsk comes under attack again. Rokossovsky, Malinin, Zhukov, and a few others launch an attack on Iasi, the next step toward defeating Romania, but our troops are tired from the long attack on Beltsy, and I'm not expecting too much out of it. Also, victory in Jelgava.
1700 17 March
Zhukov picks up the Encircler trait, making his list even better.
2000 19 March
Jelgava is ours, and the troops there join in the attack on Memel. Khabarovsk is a win again.

The Iasi attack isn't making enough progress. It's been called off.

The Memel attack continues.

There was a quick attack on Khabarovsk over the last few days, which ends (once again) in defeat for the Americans.

Memel is becoming a bit of a slog, but I remain confident of our eventual victory.

Right. First: production changes. The war against Germany is going well enough that I don't feel I need to pump out hold-the-line infantry anymore. Before too much longer, I'll probably stop all infantry production entirely in lieu of starting production on brigades, motorized (or maybe mechanized) infantry, and naval and air forces in preparation for the war on the US.
The way to go seems to be to install puppet regimes in all of the Axis Powers; between Italy's African possessions, Persia, and Portugal's islands (including Portugese Timor, in spitting distance of the Philippines), we'll be in good shape to take the fight to the Americans.
Our present build of six carriers will be done likely sometime around late 1947, by which time we'll hopefully have the Americans out of Vladivostok. We'll have to garrison a ton of coastal provinces in the Far East, but that's not a huge worry to me. Once we force the surrender of the Axis, we'll have Italian and Spanish troops to play with that aren't good for much else.
