That's only the construction portion of the Bureau's budget, but still...assholes. 
I'm seriously hoping Reid got that kicked out of the final bill. Bet they wouldn't be so happy about hamstringing ATF if it was one of theirs that got shot in the head.


EDIT: Okay, starting to get some details now. Apparently one of the concessions made was that the Senate will allow an old House Bill (H.R. 1217) that seeks to completely kill the "Obamacare" healthcare bill to actually come to a vote in the Senate. Not bloodly likely to pass, but it gives the Tea Partiers the "we gave it a try" excuse to cover their asses for the election season. Also some talk that $3 billion will be cut out of the Pentagon budget but haven't seen hard confirmation on that. Probably won't know the full details until Monday.

Please tell me this is sarcasm.

If you're serious:  "Nearly all forms of regulation" is extremely broad, to the point that you clearly haven't thought it through.  Also, I don't know what you mean by "right", but there's an obvious implication that the private sector can and will do anything and everything better (whatever that means).  This is patently false.  Market failures have occurred and do occur for a multitude of reasons.  Government regulation and/or intervention is neither necessary nor sufficient for them.

This morning, I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by my local public power monopoly regulated by the US Department of Energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by my Municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like, using satellites designed, built and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration.

At the appropriate time, as regulated by Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the US Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads built and maintained by the local, state, and Federal Departments of Transportation. On the way, I stop to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank. On the way out the door, I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the Congressionally-regulated US Postal Service and drop my kids off at our local government-owned and Department of Education mandated public school.

After work, I drive my NHTSA-approved car back home on the DOT maintained roads, to the house which has not burned down in my absence because of state and local building codes and Fire Marshall's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department.

I then log on to the Internet, which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration, and post on FreeRepublic and Fox News Forums about how our GOVERNMENT is a horrible SOCIALIST TYRANT who can't do anything right and needs to stay out of my life.

I'm trying to find a better source on this right now, actually, as mine might be unreliable.

What little else I can find does some to agree their funding has increased, but they also seem to make it out as a bipartisan effort, so blaming it on the Republicans appears to have been a mistake on my part.

Did that one make it through? The Republican obsession with taxation is almost pathological at this point. Hey, let's just shoot the government's revenue stream in the face, that sounds like a totally reasonable and wise action to take in the face of a deficit.

To be fair, I think most politicians be they red or blue are soft on tax evasion. That's how many of them went from wealthy, to really fucking wealthy. I think on the Republican side it's actually a matter of pride; hiding your money is juking the government and stopping them from "stealing" their money. Democrats, on the other hand, just treat it as another unsavory political detail that everyone does.

Slowing down the processing of all tax returns is another symptom of the "burn it all down" attitude.
