Animal cruelty?
« on: February 20, 2011, 10:41:33 am »

So I played an adventure mode game and came apon some lions. After knocking the last one out I tested out the new directed attacks feature, stabbing out the left eye and then the right eye, before slapping the sword against the lions head, jamming bone into it's brain.

I thought this was pretty damn awesome where a game can let you do so many intricately different things, with just one weapon. Turns out that trying to use it as a selling point to convert friends over to DF doesn't fill them with the same awe, but anger at the amount of cruelty inflicted on some poor lion, even though this was in self defence, I mean, they ambushed me, intent on my death!

Cruelty? Having the brain destroyed is usually the quickest means of death. On the whole it got off easily :P

Yeah, that's fairly merciful even by real world standards. Considering the things you eventually start doing to [INTELLIGENT] creatures ...

You know, let's talk about cruelty.

Do your lion loving friends eat meat?

I don't.

Meh. If that phases you then you are too naive about the ways of the world, my friend. I'd be half tempted to believe we're all dead and that this is hell. That would certainly explain a few things. Also, bacon. Sweet delicious bacon. It could marinate in shit I'd still probably eat it if it tasted the same.

well I do for the idea of a plant can eat other creatures is out there munching on flies.
that and the horrible idea that Trees will be cut down to place of farms for veggies to consume... that and eating nothing can't work until we figure out how to harvest the sun rays for food and that's not a infinite food source. One could say that plants Eat the sun, but then that person would be laugh at by Vegans for being stupid as they throw Tree blood/sap all over him.
Also you fail to tell them that the loin would have Maul your Eyes out and rip your arm off, and that in DF every one is Target... except for gods we can't target them yet.

Heh! Seems im preaching to the choir on this one.

But seriously, I never expected the kind of reaction I get from non DF players that I do. Directed attacks make immersion so much better IMO!

Toady needs to implement a ingame gold->real life gold reaction.. Or maybe we could mod it.. That'll be sure to get people queing up to download and play this awesome game :P Ehh screw em, this game rocks with or without them.
