Feb. 1862

More attacks from the Union towards Richmond, both sides reported to have lost 10,000 casualties... our forces withdrew from Manassas towards Fredericksburg.

Apr. 1862

Union troops in the east fail to take Fredericksburg.

Union forces attack Nashville, John Bell Hood defends, but is pushed back by superior numbers.
Our forces are massing around Shiloh, the next Union target will be Memphis, the way to Memphis is through Shiloh.

May. 1862

W. J. Hardee has taken command of our Corps at Shiloh, he is a well respected general of skill.

The Union finally came for us at Shiloh, they had twice our number. We fought bravely but were beaten back. Earl Van Dorn was killed charging an artillery battery, General Polk was wounded. We lost 17,000 men, they lost 10,000. The 8th Alabama engaged the 1st Pennsylvania, they were a hard bunch and we hope to never face them again.
They pressed us hard and we suffered heavy casualties, we were forced with withdraw from the battle, but we gave them a good fight before that.

We have been removed from the line to reform and refill our ranks, another Alabama regiment has been consolidated into ours for this purpose.

It saddened our hearts to hear that Lee had been defeated at gordansville, but he made the yankees pay in blood. 10,000 casualties each side.

Jul. 1862

The yankees attacked towards Corinth, General Bragg intercepted. He performed well and the yankees never saw it comming after Shiloh, they withdrew after taking 10,000 casualties. We lost 9,000 men.

Aug. 1862

They attacked Corinth again, this time our forces could not hold, Bragg gave them a good fight though, it cost them 9000 men to out 7000.

Sept. 1862

The federals attacked towards Vicksburg, Bragg tried to form a line, but could not hold them. Both sides lost 10,000 men.

Oh no! Albert Sidney Johnston was killed crossing the river at vicksburg to meet with our army!

Our regiment is ready for battle again, we are ordered by Rail to Richmond. We are assigned to D. H. Hills Corps.

Lincoln announces the emancipation proclaimation, and begins raising negro troops to his army.


Dec. 1862

We have heard the yankees have broken into Georgia, bad news.

Jan. 1863

We were transferred to Atlanta, General John Bell Hood is defending Atlanta against a predicted Union attack by Grant.

This is like the Civil war in fast forward. Its pretty historic, only 2 years too soon

Feb 1863

We have been assigned to a brigade under general Carter L Stevenson at Atlanta.

Mar 1863

Our ironclads are giving the federals hell up the Mississipi, hurrah for Admiral Michell!

Apr 1863

Grant attacks our forces dug in around Atlanta... the battle is one of the bloodiest of the war so far, we are forced to withdraw. We lost 22,000 men.
The 8th took fire from artillery during the battle, pinning us, then we were advanced on by the 10th Pennsylvania, we were in terrible shape by that time and the regiment was routed taking heavy losses.
General Gideon J. Pillow was killed in action.


Bragg is also pushed back east of vicksburg.


The war is basicly over at this point, Atlanta was the last stand really.

I would suggest you do what Grant decided to do. Wear the Confederacy down by sending as many troops as you can against their worst generals.
