A gateway to Gehenna. You can feel the heat. Gehenna seems to be made out of nothing but flames, lava and hellfire.
Gehenna is the last hell left for us to conquer. It's the fiery version of hell if you couldn't tell.
Geh:7 is a fortress with a moat of lava. There are lots of molten gargoyles, lava creatures, and Fiends. I consider this place to be the hardest hell, due to the abundance of hellfire.
There are a lot of monsters guarding the entrance to the fortress. Unfortunately, non of the Hell knights were carrying anything useful.
I managed to make it inside the fortress and loot the towers.
A huge red glowing dragon, burning with hellfire.
Looks like the Serpent of Hell became a true unique. It will randomly appear in one of the branches of hell and have suitable abilities to match. Hellfire and flame breath in Gehenna, freezing cloud and cold breath in Cocytus, miasma and bolt of draining in Tartarus, and metal splinters and quicksilver breath in Dis.
Hellfire is really painful. I wish I encountered it in Cocytus.
One of the arch-demons who dwell in the depths of Hell, wreathed in fire.
Asmodeus is an arch-devil ruler of the Hells from AD&D. He was based upon Asmodai, one of the seven princes of Hell from the Book of Tobit. In 0.7, he was basically a palette swap of Dispater. In 0.8, he was changed to differentiate him from Dispater.
Asmodeus now has fire summon instead of greater demon, and he lost a couple of spells. He also has a permanent ring of flames. Asmodeus is one of the weaker hell lords, but he has a couple of Fiends as body guards.
I lured him away from the Fiends and managed to defeat him. I nearly died from a barrage of hellfire, so I had to use Revivification. I didn't lose much HP, but I really dislike having to use it. Anyway, I took his sceptre and headed for the rune.
Loot!
Here's what I kept. Take Asmodeus' sceptre and Dispater's staff with you when you ascend. Those items are worth a lot of points. The sceptre can be evoked to cast various conjurations and summon hostile Fiends... Yeah, I'm never gonna use it.
I can cast Controlled Blink at "Very Good", so I got rid of Demonic Horde to learn it. I'll train translocations a few more levels to cast it reliably.
Now that we're done with the Hells I decided to enter Pandemonium. Pan is an infinite dungeon branch filled with demons and nothing else. Almost all Pan levels contain a vault containing a Pandemonium lord, loot (sometimes), and possibly a rune. There are four unique pan lords and the others are random.
It seems that we already have to fight a Pan lord, probably Mnoleg. Mnoleg's level in crawling with abominations, ugly things, and mutaters.
These portals lead to other places in pan. Actual exits are rare, so bring a weapon of distortion to banish yourself.
I found an unidentified ring of wizardry. I finally identified all the jewelry in the game, I think.
Yep, it's Mnoleg.
A weirdly glowing figure, dancing through the twisted air of Pandemonium.
He was a wimp in 0.7. In 0.8, he got buffed. Mnoleg now has summon eyeballs instead of summon greater demon, blink range instead of invisibility, and he has two melee brands: blink (does he blink or does he cause you to blink away?) and mutating. He kept smiting and summon horrible things. I haven't fought the new and improved Mnoleg before, so this should be fun.
I managed to defeat him, but I got overwhelmed by his summons.
Rune #10!
Two unique pan lords in a row. I guess I'm lucky. This is Gloorx's level.
Lots of executioners, unseen horrors, and shadow demons are lurking here.
Gloorx VloqA shadowy figure clothed in profound darkness.
The last few times I fought Gloorx I kept getting overwhelmed by all the executioners in this area, so I'm going to kill them all before we fight.
I found the rune by accident. Welp. It's time to go! No point in fighting him now! Just kidding.
You guys demanded GLORY, so we'll kill every god or demon that gets in our way.
Besides, you can't return to a level in pan once you leave.
Xom, the god of chaos, decided to mess with me by putting his card in my deck. I drew it and he teleported me around a few times.
He's not so tough without his executioner buddies. Only 2 more pan lords left (not including the random ones)!
