I brought the long sword and bow. The bow is grayed out, meaning I can't use it. I already know its the Storm Bow (due to the description), so I want to add it to my collection.

Kobolds can't use bows? I thought it was just longbows - makes me wonder why they have +1 aptitude if they can't use them.

Head to snake. You can totally handle the EV penalty of a ring mail of rPois or a swamp dragon armour, and both were for sale in Orc.

Also you must embark on a quest to get enough Str to wear that artifact GDA. Is it the Armour of Dragon King or a randart? I think it's a randart.

You have to be careful with GDA. It's very, very nice, but the EVP is the highest out of anything in the game, so you don't want to use it if you specialize in dodging, don't have good armour skill, and/or want to cast spells that aren't Magic Dart.

However, boots of levitation last forever when you invoke them. Or as long as you want, anyway; if you don't have Controlled Flight in some form then you need to cancel it to pick up items.

What the benefit of done Snake 1 now? Dik-Dik is strong enough to survive a deeper dungeon dive, and the dungeon has the same chance of good loot as snake 1 with less danger.

There was a tie between going to the Snake Pit and exploring the main dungeon. I flipped a coin to decide what I'll do next. Heads for the Snake Pits and tails for the dungeon. It turned up heads, so I'll head to the Snake Pit first. Then, I'll continue with the dungeon.

ADK usually costs more, whenever I find it in shops. I'd need 27 strength in order to wear golden dragon armor without the additional penalties.

Welcome back to Let's Play Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup!

I ran into a group of orc warriors and a orc knight while heading to the shops in the mines. They nearly managed to kill me, but in the end I won and gained a level.



Here we are in the Snake Pit! This branch is 5 levels deep and is filled with snakes and nagas. I wouldn't recommend coming here with a source of poison resistance. That is why I brought a ring mail of poison resistance.



Nessos' bio:

A black centaur warrior with a malicious look in the eyes.

This guy carries a longbow of flame, poisoned arrows, and a centaur barding. What makes him unique is that he can cast spells and he cheats. Nessos loves to haste himself, blink constantly, and pelt you with flaming arrows that poisons you. No one else in the game is capable of combining those two brands anymore.

Nessos doesn't have that much MR, so wands are useful against him.



I moved out of Nessos' LOS, summoned a rock troll (between a regular troll and an iron troll in strength), and let it eviscerate Nessos for me. My troll also killed the mamba, and a centaur hiding behind some bushes nearby. Afterward, I picked up Nessos barding as a trophy and moved on.



I stepped on a teleport trap and ended up in this area. None of these monsters were a threat.



Heading east I encountered an anaconda. These snakes move nearly twice as fast as most characters and will constrict you to death very quickly if you let it get close to you. Kill them with extreme prejudice!



Another teleport trap landed me back near the entrance.



The most annoying thing about these snakes is that they flee whenever you're about to kill them.



It feels great to backstab these cowards!



I tried identifying a wand I picked up in the previous area. Didn't work. I left the Lair and collected some sling bullets to deal with these pesky snakes.



I went downstairs to Snake:2. I kill a snake and chased another one (mamba) through half of the level. 



I ran into a group of nagas and a naga warrior (dude with the blue tail). Naga warriors are twice as dangerous as regular nagas, which doesn't mean much.



See?



These levels are pretty easy. I found this viper near a scroll of recharging. Vipers are not a threat if you have poison resistance. If not, then they're somewhat more dangerous than moccasins.



I finally get sweet revenge on these fleeing bastards. You might as well use those MR-based wands now, since they become mostly useless later on in the game.



Yikes! This isn't good. I summoned some help to get this snake off of me.



Like all snakes, the anaconda tried to escape. My hill giant still managed to pulverize it before his time was up.



That's it for Snake:2. Hopefully the next levels are more interesting.

Metal and stone walls. Neat.



I tested my unidentified wand on a naga. It turned out to be a wand of fire.



Whoo! Curare needles! Curare poisons and irresistibly slows down non-resistant enemies. These needles are overpowered. And I always use them.  Sadly, these needles are useless in the post-endgame (i.e. demonic branches).



Onward to Snake:4!



Back to green rock walls again. Don't be fooled by how easy this place looks. The last level of any branch is always much harder than the rest of the levels combined. I'd probably die if I tried to get the rune right now.



Hell yeah! Trog gave me a katana! 



I found a wand shop. Let's see if they have anything we'd want.



I brought the wand of disintegration (13) and left.



I found another shop. This time there's a group of nagas blocking my way.



I switched to my artifact dagger and buckler for this fight. Why? Cause I want to try out the elec brand on a super fast weapon. 



As you can see it's pretty effective.



I'm not interested in this artifact bow, so I only brought a couple of scrolls (identify and enchant armor).



Yet another shop! This is my lucky day.



I brought the elven robe.



Naga mages are a lot more dangerous than naga warriors, since they can cast spells. Kill them quickly.



In Crawl, poison resistance is basically poison immunity. The only thing that can poison resistant enemies is Poison Arrow. Naga mages and greater nagas can cast it, which is how I got poisoned. I heard that poison staves have a chance of bypassing poison resistance as well now. Only the undead have true immunity to poison.



Wow. How many shops are on this level? Anyway, this jerk teleported me away from here. Guardian serpents are kinda like nagas, except fast and armless. They're dangerous on Snake:5, because they can teleport you to some place very dangerous. Otherwise, guardian serpents aren't too hard to handle.



I landed between two black mambas. They're non-threats are this point.



While making my way back to the shop I encountered this guy.

Norris' bio:

A relaxed peace-in-death cultist with a healthy tan and a soothing voice. He doesn't really care if it is you or him who dies - "both" would probably be the best option.

Norris can smite you, turn invisible, confuse you, paralyze you, eat your brain, and heal himself. He's a nasty unique to fight. Use extreme caution around this guy. I moved out of his LOS and switched to my dagger and buckler.Then, I buffed myself and shot him with a curare needle.



Result? I killed him without taking any damage. 



I started victory dancing my sling skill, due to all the exp I got from killing Norris.



My sling skill increased by 5 levels.



After running past these guys (I'll kill them after I'm done shopping!  ) I finally reached the shop.



There's nothing in here that I want to buy right now.



Oh lord. Is there a shop around every corner?! I don't even think I have inventory space for all this stuff!



I brought some scrolls and potions.



I started identifying some stuff outside the store. Mutations are semi-permanent changes to your body. They can be either good or bad. There are a lot more good mutations in Crawl than bad ones. However, some mutations are really bad and can screw over your character.



That's it for the Snake Pit... for now. I'll return when dik-dik isn't so squishy.



I stopped by my stash to unload my stuff. I decided to organize my stash while I was at it. Right to left, top to bottom: Battle trophies, misc stuff, potions, artifacts, and scrolls. I think it looks better.

Next stop: Dungeon level 10!

Welcome back to Let's Play Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup!

Here we are on D:10.



I identified a potion of resistance by drinking it. It temporarily gives you fire, cold, electricity, and poison resistance. It also causes you to be lightly contaminated with magic. Magic contamination (shown as the "Glow" status) is a side effect of using powerful charms or miscasting spells. Dull gray means light contamination and bright yellow means heavy contamination.

After you reach a certain level of contamination you start mutating (and the mutations tend to be negative). If you glow too much you might explode. Though, it's not lethal. Glow decays over time unless you keep casting stuff like haste or invisibility.

Potions of resistance are useful for characters with limited body slots, or were unlucky in finding important resistances. I usually stash them away, until I head to the Realm of Zot.



I usually don't encounter cyclops at this depth. Anyway, I killed it and received another gift (a scimitar) from Trog. I love my amulet of faith!



I blew up an orc wizard with my wand of disintegration. Disintegration does resistible damage against monsters and instantly destroys silver and orange crystal statues. If you zap a fleshy monster with disintegration and they die, they'll explode into a gory mess of blood and chunks! 



Whoever put this jelly next to these items is a jerk.  I used up my wand of magic dart to prevent it from eating all the loot.



A few squares away from where I killed the jelly I encountered this unique.

Psyche's bio:

A fair-haired mage, wandering and seemingly half-mad with grief and guilt.

Psyche's difficulty varies, but she's generally not much of a threat. Sometimes she carries a dagger of distortion or chaos, so beware of that. Most uniques are living humanoids without poison resistance, which is why curare is so overpowered.

In 0.8, Haste and Slow were nerfed. Both spells only affect movement and actions by 1.5 now. Berserk's haste effect wasn't touched, meaning Berserk is faster than Haste. Anyway, curare isn't as powerful as before, though it paralyzes insects now, so it probably balances out. I heard that the devs were going to nerf curare by making it rely on throwing skill, but it doesn't seem to have happened yet.



Proof that curare is awesome. I didn't even need to go berserk against Psyche. And dik-dik reached level 16!



I was testing Psyche's dagger out and it turned out to have the distortion brand! Distortion is powerful and dangerous brand that inflict a random effect: minor damage, large damage, blink, teleport, or banishment. Removing a distortion weapon from your hands causes a semi-random translocations miscast effect. The nastiest ones are heavy glowing and banishment.

Distortion is a good brand for speed/low level runs, because getting monsters out of your way is very useful. Newbies hate this brand because they think getting banished is a death sentence. It isn't, unless you're really unlucky.



I'm not afraid of the Abyss, so I just unwielded the dagger. Nothing dangerous happened.



Heading southeast, I ran into a killer bee and a fellow kobold. I enslaved the bee and sicced it on the kobold.



The bee outlived its usefulness, so I turned it into an iguana and killed it.



I found a crystal ball, so I identified it. It's a ball of energy, which is useful for spell casters, but not so much for Trog worshipers. Holy word deals damage to all demons and undead in your LOS and has a chance of paralyzing them for a few turns.



We're done with this level. Let's move on.



D:11 is a wide open water level. I guess there'll be electric eels lurking in the water. 



A phantom. They're basically the undead version of imps. Constantly blinking around, but without the regen or ability to use weapons. Still annoying though. At this point I can one-shot them.



Ugh. Electric eels. These creatures like to pop up from the water and zap you with electricity, which is quite painful without rElec. Our animal skin provides rElec, so these eels are just pests.



I turned the eel into a moccasin and a few kobolds woke up.

A gila monster wandered into my LOS, so I enslaved it.



It killed all the kobolds and water moccasin for me. My gila monster was still healthy, so I sicced it on a couple of giant goldfishes (another silly monster, not really dangerous). The goldfishes managed to kill my pet, but I finished them off.



Erica's bio:

A comely spellweaver.

Erica is somewhat dangerous. She can turn invisible, slow you down, and blast you with mystic blast/venom bolt.



Curare + berserk trivialized her. Trog gave me 20 silver sling bullets as a gift.



Giant spores explode when killed or come into contact with you (or your allies). The explosion does up to 45 damage (enough to kill low level characters), confuses you, and destroys your food. Thankfully, giant spores are extremely weak (1 HP, 1 HD, and no AC). They do have average evasion, so blast them with an accurate wand or spell, like Magic Dart (never misses!).



The explosion also causes ballistomycete to grow! Ballistomycete is a fungus, which is able to spawn more giant spores and can be created by giant spores. Ballistomycetes have the potential to take over a level, turning it into a level-wide challenge. A single giant spore can cause this, if left unattended.

Destroying a ballistomycete takes priority over almost everything else. You don't get any exp for kill them, unless you have wiped out the entire fungal colony.



Trog gave me a huge stack of dispersal darts! Thank you!!



When you finally destroy the fungal colony you get 500 exp, which is nice for killing a bunch of unmoving, weak fungi.



I found a scroll of acquirement! Acquirement gives you an item for free. Unlike wishes, acquirement doesn't allow you to choose a specific item. Only an item type can be picked. Everybody differs on what they choose. Some people pick armor, others pick weapons, but I always choose jewelry (and gold if I want to buy something expensive).



Meh. A useless artifact.



Here we are on D:12.



More dungeon riffraff. I got more sling bullets (flaming) from Trog.



Oh, steel bullets! Steel does 50% more damage in general (silver does double damage, but only to genetically abnormal beings and the undead), mulches 1/10th of the time than normal, but weighs 3x as much as regular ammo. Steel and silver are the best brands for ammo.



Another gift. That odd-looking device on my left is a lantern of shadows, which reduces your LOS by 2 squares and spawns friendly shadows around you. I have no need for it, so I'm not going to pick it up.



I finally found the entrance to the Hive.

You hear an angry and manifold buzzing.

The hive is a small 2-level branch filled with bees. The bottom level has a lot of honeycombs (over 30) and royal jellies (10-15). This place is very nice for characters with hunger issues, especially spriggans. Due to the abundance of food here, most PCs never have to worry about starving ever again. Other than that, this place is pretty dull.

Here's another choice for viewers:
- Enter the hive.
- Ignore it and continue exploring the dungeon.
- Go to the Swamp.
