Obsidian is an igneous extrusive stone, so it can contain veins of hematite, native copper, galena, and native gold, as well as small clusters of native aluminum. In version 0.31.19, though, you'll be lucky if it contains anything at all (aside from gems).

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Dream on - the only gems you'll find in obsidian are turquoise, black zircon, green zircon, red zircon, brown zircon, yellow zircon, clear zircon, and a long list of gemstones that can be found anywhere (which does not include diamonds). The only place you'll find diamonds is in kimberlite, and the only place you'll find kimberlite is within gabbro.
Besides, diamonds don't have accurate physical properties in Dwarf Fortress - they're just as hard as any other stone, and they're flammable.

I am going to copy the chicken entry and rename everything chocobo and make it 100x the size of a normal chicken and make it rideable.  Too bad our dwarves probably wont ride them. >_>

Diamonds will burn at approximately 1520F in 20% oxygen. And it's not really burning as much as it is exploding (since it is pure carbon). Diamonds are very hard, but can't be made particularly sharp because the atoms are arranged in a tetrahedral arrangement, which also makes them likely to chip in a hard impact.
