Fmodex dll Problem
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:58:13 pm »

Note: I have not posted this in the bugs section because it is not a bug

Now I love Dwarf fortress as much as anyone here and I enjoy it immensely. I used to have the " The Program can't start because fmodex.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstaliing the program to fix this problem. " error message hold me up until I managed to run DF through an application in my downloads folder, but now with DF_31_19 version out I will not be able to play it because of the fmodex.dll problem. Help solving this problem would be very much appreiciated.

Note: I have tried unzipping it with 7zip but it dosen't work.

Did you try to find fmodex.dll and put it in your windows/system32/ folder? If it doesn't work, try:
Go to Start -> Run -> type "regsvr32 fmodex.dll" (after you've placed this dll in your windows system32 folder).

Well I copied a fmodex.dll file into system32 but when I ran the regsevr thing it said " The module "fmodex.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
Make sure "fmodex.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again.
Also I tried running the dwarf fortress exe but now it has come up with " The program can't start because zlib1.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
ARGH!!!!!!!
Thanks for the help though.

Do you have this file? You should. You can change it to any other tileset file.

Are you using a shortcut?  Make a new one (right click + drag to wherever; "create shortcut here").  You might not have the "start in" value on the shortcut correct (it should start in whatever dir the dwarffort.exe file is in).

I think I had something like this happen once and it was looking in the wrong place for all the files.

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
