The trailer park gives us an immediate benefit while the park requires two builders for another four days before it gives us anything.

No, three since we already have a legit builder and two if successfully converted. Besides, we're already running out of food- so farms come first before getting more survivors than two at this point, and another trailer park would only give us larger and an irregular border. We could always convert the trailer park into a farm, but that too would cost more time and resources to do so.

I said 4 because I figured in a two day reduction.  Do parks take less time?

Oh, I had inferred that your four days were referring to the time it to took to convert the park into other buildings, not the total time. In that case, apologies, as it is my fault.

It takes 4 days to capture a new place, 2 days if you include 2 builders.

It takes I believe 6 days to convert any building. 3 days if you include 3 builders.

Because it is never a good idea to mass convert or mass build, usually 5 builders is all you need.

Lots of food great since Parties give 10 for every 50 food you give... and 25 if you use two leaders to host. High happyness gives bonuses of food and more importantly random shooting parties.

How can you afford parties?  Unless you research preservation, you can't store more then 50 food.  I've never managed to do any research on nightmare...

You usually end up with more food production then you do people.

Yeah, starvation hits really hard. Actually, everything hits hard on nightmare mode, since the RNG is stacked up to roll bad events constantly, from farm blights to rival gangs to zombie bites to a lot more. Majority of them are preventable once you get the right building and upgrades but they still hurt a lot in the beginning.

Yep!

Keeping a high defense probably cuts down on survivors dying to dogs/whackos. Perhaps barricading malls?

From what I understand, having a hospital takes away alot of RNG deaths, and researching zombie vaccine cuts down too
Pesticides and preservation tech keeps all your food from rotting away

Eh, I disagree. After my fort is under 10% danger, I'll organize my remaining groups of soldiers into 5-enough to take out a medium infection usually, once they clear out, I send in two builders+1 soldier, and the squad goes on another cleaning mission, rinse and repeat.

As long as you have enough defense, you can easily take multiple squares at a time, and can afford alot more builders. Of course, building toward the closest edge of the map is a good idea. Things get hairy when you don't have enough soldiers to defend everything.

Which is where a school comes in! Trading in units your not using, like scientists without a lab, no skill civs or extras leaders into soldiers is always good.

It is mostly because everytime you take a new building the ones behind that building have even more zombies then the last.

So depending on your setup taking multiple buildings may tax you a lot more then you realise.

The worst part of this game is the fact that taking locations somehow kills all survivors and the majority of the supplies for little-no reason. (Though the game has a lot of these mechanics. You could try to take a place you havn't scouted that have NO zombies... but unless you bring a soldier it is a 20% risk, better yet if you don't scout a location you don't even have to clear it of zombies first)
