LimestoneThe farm's complete, the hatches in place, the doors sealed. All that's left is to pull the lever! A dwarf named Polar_Atom, who had done most of the mechanics on the project, suggested we test the drainage hatch and double check the doors. I cupped him upside the head and told him to quit being a pansy.
"Pull the lever!" I ordered.
The floodgate burst open and a fountain of watered gushed in. As I watched through a hatch in the door, I noticed a thick layer of mud being dispersed across the floor - just as planned! I chuckled at my own brilliance, and raised my eyebrows at ol' Polar_Atom. He shook his head and looked away, one hand ready to pull the drainage lever and his eyes on the water level.
I yanked on the floodgate lever once more and the flowing water was cut off. A second later Polar_Atom pulled the hatch lever and we both watched the pool drain into the hollowed cavern I'd prepared below. I thumped him on the back and went to find the farmers.

SandstoneAnother group of migrants strode in today, not caring to wipe their boots before stepping all over my smooth stone hallway. I assigned a few to the new farm and a few to set up some workshops. The chapter for industry has begun! Plisskin pulled a couple more aside, later telling me he intended to set up a militia of sorts. He'd got a bowyery scratched up and a bonecarver making them some bolts. I told him if he's got it all sorted I don't mind sparing a few hands.

TimberI had stepped outside earlier for a drink and noticed a bear off in the distance. Sipping at my sewer brew, I thought back to the previous month and Plisskin's decision to form a milita. What a grand time to test their metal! I bellowed down the hallway for him and he arrived a minute later with his squad of four.
"Reckon you can take a bear?" I said, grinning from ear to ear.
"Give me one good reason why-"
"Oh common, I dare ya!"
He raised one of his thick eyebrows, "We haven't any weapons yet, at least wait for a few crossbows to be made for us?"
I just stared at him, grinning. He didn't look amused.
"Alright boys, looks like our first training session's been scheduled." He finally said, leading them out past the tree line.
I couldn't see very well from the gate, since they chased the thing up the hill a fair way. A half hour later they returned, covered in blood and a few of them limping. I laughed in triumph and thumped Iden on the arm encouragingly. He winced. What a pansy.
