Dining room...
« on: March 22, 2007, 10:16:00 am »

Ok, so my dwarves disdain that enormous common dining room. They eat in the kitchen then complain about lack of tables and chairs. So I make a miserable 3X2 private dining room much farther from the kitchen than the common room. They go to their private room, eat and are quite happy with it. Ass!

Is the enormous room designated as such using 'q' from a table?  I know they prefer private rooms, but they shouldn't eat in the kitchen if they can access a chair in a common dining room.

And the dwarves assigned to the big room prefers to eat in the sheriff's modest dining room. Luckily he does not mind...

Now they are eating in rooms assigned to other dwarves?  Any other reports of this?  The spouse of a dwarf might share the room legally.

I squeezed all of my nobles into the same room, and now they ignore their dining rooms in favor of sitting in the chair in their office to eat and proceeding to complain about a lack of tables. Nevermind that I actually put in tables next to their office chairs for them, which they don't use. It sounds like it might be a related problem.

pff... i used to make all the nobles share one room that was all of their offices AND their dining rooms.  and they loved it.

now, i just make all the little gits live in the legendary barracs.

on topic though, I've seen dwarfs eating in rooms assigned to other dwarfs.  not sure if there were extra tables, or non assigned tables that were being used, but the contents of the room were definitly the property of someone else.  this was pre-economy.

They could be worse off. My bourgiosie are on their way out as part of my fortress's latest purge of filthy capitalist counter-revolutionaries. The Miners and Mechanics are 'improving' their bedchambers with floodgates connected to the magma flow as we speak.

Sounds like they're treating other people's dining rooms as if they're communal ones.

Minor quibble: Nobles definitely aren't bourgeoisie... They're aristocracy- the type of people that the bourgeoisie overthrew in the French Revolution...

The bourgeoisie are the artisans, merchants and the like... If you want to kill all your bourgeois you'd just have peasants and farmers... maybe miners too.

Remember, though nobles activate the capitalist economy, they're above it and generally screw with it (through mandates)- the nobility is as abhorrent to the capitalist counter-revolutionaries as they are to the true communist...

Oh, silly Eiba. If the nobles weren't bourgiosie capitalist counter-revolutionary pig-dogs, then why would the Party be exterminating them in gory mass executions? You aren't suggesting that our glorious Comrade-Premier is capable of making mistakes, are you?
