Usually not. The Mongols just arrived in mine, are they any danger to Venice?

They might be they might not be, it's kind of a random thing weither they prove a danger to anyone or not, it relies alot on where they show up, random chance, and where and if they take a city.

Is anybody else going to choose a faction, or am I just have to going to go with those 3 suggestions?

Edit:  I've decided to just go with Hungary, I'm familiar with the troops they have and now that I've started thinking about it, I really want to do them.  I'll be posting a base turn here... sometime today probably, if not, definitely tomorrow.  It shouldn't cover any more than 2 years (4 turns).

Double edit:  After that, if you have a ridiculous idea you want me to do, sure, I'll give it a go.

Assassination style. You are only allowed to take Capitols, and only one per war with the faction.

Use Hungarian nobles. God, I hate fighting missile cavalry, they're the absolute worse. So guess who I'm always fighting? The Byzantines and Hungary. So yeah, use them, you should be able to skirmish most armies down to size, then smash them with dismounted feudal knights.

((This turn was brought to you buy Paint.NET and FunnyJunk.  Thank you FunnyJunk for having a perfect picture to describe my feelings towards the noble council.))

Turns 1-4:  Hungary's Ambition

Prince Kalman sat in the throne room of the Hungarian Castle in Bran.  Discussing with his adviser he was trying to set up a plan for growth of the area surrounding the castle when a message arrived from Budapest, no doubt from his father telling him something he already knew.  While his father, King Laszlo the Honorable, had only the best of intentions, he liked to micromanage everything.  Summoning the messenger forward, Kalman began to read the letter.

My son,  As you read this, you should know that I am preparing my forces for war.  Though our people are strong and tenacious, if we are to survive the growing threats, we must expand beyond our current borders.  The time has come to get rid of the rebels who dare to question our divine sovereignty.  Do whatever it takes to put down the rebels in Bucharest, I shall focus my forces on Sofia.

King Laszlo

Prince Kalman sent his advisers away, matters regarding the building of a chapel could be dealt with later.  It would seem that the King had finally decided it was time to expand beyond Hungary's current borders.  "Stay a moment courier, I shall have a message for you to bring to Istvan very shortly"  With that the Prince began quickly scrawling down a short message on a handy piece of parchment.  Unfortunately, the Prince wouldn't be able to see to Bucharest himself, but Istvan had a reputation as a very capable general, and able to get the job done, no matter the cost, exactly what was needed in Bucharest.

Istvan, The time has come for Hungary to reassert it's control over Bucharest.  I shall have an additional unit of Bosnians waiting to reinforce you at Bran.  Make your way here with all haste, and then, as soon as the Bosnians join with your current forces, head to Bucharest.  Once the city has been taken, make sure they know the price of rebellion.

Prince Kalman

The seasons had changed to Winter by the time Istvan had arrived, but the Bosnians had joined with him and it was time to march on Bucharest.  Bucharest was only a short distance away from Bran so it's people would be brought in line before the end of the year.  Prince Kalman sat in his fortress, planning on quickly expanding the barracks and archery ranges of the castle so that a force would soon be able to raised worthy of the Hungarian Crown.

Meanwhile, in Bucharest

Though the force was small, it was a more than enough to take out the rebels in a poorly defended settlement with not even a wall to protect it.  "Sir, we have Bucharest surrounded, should we starve them out or march in and slaughter them?"  Said Dzsó leader of a unit of Spearmen.

"We march in straight away, we will take this settlement for the glory of God and Hungary."

((You can see there it's a pretty even battle, as far as numbers go.  I have 3 Spear Militia, 2 Bosnian Archers, and the General's Bodyguard  They have several units of archers, a unit of archer cavalry, and 2 units of town militia))

"Men, I know your bravery is faultless, but today is the first time many of you will see battle, so I have one piece of advice for you all.  Kill every rebel you see, they are an abomination to the crown, and to God."  though the speech was short, many of the men seemed roused by it, eager to capture the city and get out of the cold that had blanketed the land.

"Dzsó, take your unit around to the other side of the city, we'll hit them from two sides at once and force them to split their forces.  Once we engage them on both sides, it's only a matter of time until victory is ours."  said Istvan, taking his own group to the other side of the town.  Inside, they could here the rebels making their own preparations.

((2 Units of Spear Militia and a Unit of Bosnian Archers on one side.  On the other side is the General, a Unit of Spear Militia, and the other unit of Bosnian Archers))

Soon a flag was raised from one of the lances carried by the general's knight escorts, signaling the beginning of the advance.  It wasn't long before the archers in the town square began raining arrows down on them.  The spear militia's shields absorbed many of them though.  It soon became apparent that many of the enemy archers were mere peasants with bows who knew little to nothing on how to work together as a unit.  "Forward men, my knights and I will circle around to the other side and keep any of the curs from escaping"

Soon the Bosnian Archers were proving their worth as many of the rebels were lost to the superior firepower of the Bosnians and their flaming arrows.  The Spear Militia began their approach through the narrow city streets as Istvan marched around to the other entrance to the town square.  Soon the Rebel militia was charging towards the spearmen of Hungary, but it was clear who was more skilled as many of the rebels went down as the Bosnian Archers continued to rain arrows down on the town square.  Without any warning a horn sounded behind the rebels, who all turned to look around as they saw what little cavalry they had been able to scrape together being attacked by a unit of true knights.

"Dear god, we got to stop those knights or we're done for.  Archers, CHARGE!"  said Captain Tombromeros, who had personally taken command of a professional group of Brigands who happened to be in Bucharest at the time of the Hungarian attack.  The Brigands, though they were archers, were also fierce combatants in melee.  If you're going to waylay caravans, you must be willing to get your hands dirty after all.  It soon became apparent that the unprofessional cavalry were unable to do anything against the knights, but if they were surrounded by the Brigands, that all might change.  "Knights, fall back."  called out Istvan.  Soon they stood outside the town square where the Brigands dare not follow them, but the rebel horsemen did, where they were cut down one by one until none remained.  "Charge the brigands, let them feel the wrath of Hungary, and the wrath of God!"  With no spearmen to protect the brigands, nearly half of them were cut down in a single charge.

"To me!  All of you, TO ME!" cried out Captain Tombromeros, it would be the last thing he said though as a knight approached him and with one fell swoop of the sword, removed his head.

In little time the rest of the rebels were killed, all of them.  "Sir the city is ours, what are your orders?"  said Dzsó who had bravely been at the frontlines for nearly the entire battle.  "Get anyone who supported those rebels out here.  We'll show them the price of Rebelion." said Istvan.

End of Year 1

Before her father left, Pioska had been sent on a mission.  A mission to Germany, to open trade between them and learn what she could of the German people.  Now, on the outskirts of Vienna, she received word that the Council of Nobles had finally agreed with the king that opening trade with Germany was a wise idea.  "Leave it to the Council, to doubt my father, and then at the last minute try to take credit for his accomplishments."  She muttered under her breath, just now getting word of her new "mission" which she had been on for a whole year before she received word of it.

"The English have a phrase for this feeling I believe.  I believe it is something along the lines of. . ."

Before the day was even over, negotiations with the Germans had concluded, resulting in trade between the two kingdoms and in receiving a map of the German territories.  It was then however, when Pioska heard a knock at her door.  Assuming it was simply one of her bodyguards, she was surprised when she opened it and found a noble of high stature in Hungary standing there.  "I have come to ask for your hand in marriage."  he said simply.

In the next six months, Pioska was courted by the noble, Elek Marton, waiting for word from her father.  When it finally came, the answer was yes, he would make a worthy addition to the family.  Wedding preparations were made at once, and in the Winter of 1086 Pioska was married to Ellek Marton in the City of Budapest, Capital of the Hungarian Kingdom.

Meanwhile, King Laszlo could finally see Sofia in the distance.  It wouldn't be long now, until Sofia was a province in the Hungarian Kingdom, and Laszlo's name would go down in history, as the King who ensured Hungary's dominance of the region.

((What do you guys think, too many pictures, too little words.  I'm a little curious.  I tried to make it interesting at least.  Anywho, here's a list of current generals, taken and not-taken))

I'll take Prince Kalman. Are we allowed to give instructions to our charachter? Maybe some kind of authonomy, so we can have struggles in the Royal Family?
