Yeah, pretty much the pros and cons what people are saying are true... but it's still a fun game.

Especially if you can get some buddies on to play with.  Had a blast, but I can see this being like Borderlands too.  Once you beat it, it gets shelfed never to see the light of day again.

Personally I do that with 90 percent of games anyway, even the most enjoyable. I don't see myself playing Deus Ex 3 again unless there's a bit more substantial DLC in the f uture. But so what? I got my hours of fun out of it already enough to say it was worthwhile.

 It's really intriguing watching people fighting over dead island whether it's a decent game or not. you know, there are a lot of shitty games in the world that no one ever paid attention to. We have crap load of different views and opinions for dead island, which is good, given the fact that if it was a EXTREMELY shitty game that's not even worth looking at, people won't even be argueing. Dead island has very interesting combat (Just my perosonal opinion tho), pretty distinctive characters / abilities (Again, It's just an opinion), and loads and loads of zombies just there waiting to be dismembered by your machete. What more should I say?

 It's bugged as hell(well, considering that the game's been under development for half a decade, this is a bit disturbing), kinda awkward, bloom effect almost looks like it's going to scoop my eyes out. Well, at least it's fun. It has a truck-loads of defects and errors, but it sure is fun.

Everything has something somebody enjoys. "One or more people liked portions of it" is not the same as "You personally would enjoy and should purchase this."

Similarly, just about everything gets "generally positive reviews with some exceptions" unless it's utterly abysmal. That doesn't tell us anything.

Thank god I found the Bloom disabling hack on the Steam forums today, that was painful :P

Also, everyone who has an opportunity should give the analog control scheme a try. It requires a gamepad (360 by default, others with driver overrides) but it's quite worthwhile to have that total control of how you swing your weapon, and be able to precisely target. Sadly in this mode on PC it lacks the aim-assist that the gamepad really needs to target specific points easily.

No, but the rest of my posts tell plenty. Frankly I felt my defense of the game was absolutely justified at that point since the last few posts had been pile-ons dissing the game when asked for an opinion, and balance is necessary. So I don't see what your problem is exactly.

Don't attempt this game solo, because running around and killing stuff with friends is more fun than doing it alone, and that is all there is to the game.
I've only played solo and i haven't had any difficulties.

2-4 zombies? Kick them all down and then bash/cut them.

Seriously? I would never have thought so. I thought it was rushed.

My impression of the game so far is that it has excellent combat, but terrible everything else.  I've had loads of great moments where I'm desperately fighting off multiple zombies, or when I time a swing just right and decapitate the zombie that's charging at me.  On the other hand its full of terrible design decisions and bugs that kind of ruin the fun.  I'm hoping that it'll draw enough of a modding community to fix it up because it could be a great game but as it is at the moment I wouldn't recommend it.

Just one zombie? Kill it. Run away: it'll cost you $40 to $80 to repair your weapon from killing the zombie and it'll drop anywhere from $0 to $20.
2-4 zombies? Kick them all down and then bash/cut them as another one comes upbehind you, punches you through a wall, and as your recovering the original four get a hit on you each, you kill one, but they've surrounded you now, so you die and respawn.

Maybe you enjoy paying top dollar for what you basically admit is going to be a one shot title. I'd prefer to vote with my wallet and not give them full price for what has been a total train wreck of a release, and what seems like a good deal of over hyping. (I don't see anyone else but you coming out in passionate defense of it.) As for why games need to be more than shooting and looting....

I think the combat system is enough to make it a fun party game with friends but after one play through not much else, also it's a game of SURVIVAL AND LOOTING. I think that means your weapon breaks you find a new one, not that hard there's like 300 paddles around the beach just chilling there, not that difficult.

Nope. only in the beginning when you run around with styrofoam sticks and paper swords. later you're a walking arsenal and have gotten cardboard swords and rubber clubs.

And now i finished the game. the story sucks.

See I have a problem with everyone complaining about how quickly things break.  You ever try and really hit something with a lead pipe?  Two-three hits and the pipe has bent almost all the way to 90*.  I've done some martial arts practices myself, and training with broomsticks doesn't work.  You hit anything even remotely hard, let alone knocking somethings head off with a broomstick and more then likely it's gonna shatter in just a few hits.  In my opinion the problem with the weapons system is that yes, sharp weapons shouldn't bust apart quite as fast as they do, but they should get dull and weak really fast.  What you shouldn't be able to do is repair everything, at least to full repair, maybe halfway hardness so each time you repair it it gets weaker and weaker.

Perhaps upgrading would prolong that event?  Frankly the whole upgrade system makes minimal sense to me, when there is also the create system.  Maybe upgrading would deteriorate before the base hardness, so you upgrade something, then next time you repair it the weapon goes back to full repair but loses points towards the upgrade.  say you repair an item for 75% and the an upgrade level gets removed.
