Also I vaguely remember something about gangstas on the island who had survived, and the player could buy guns and stuff from them.  I may have imagined that though

I don't know why but I am feeling very pissed off right now.

Will they STOP with the shops in horror games already? It never makes sense!

The synopsis I read seemed to indicate that you will play as a vacationer who is on the island when the outbreak begins. Of course, that synopsis could be completely incorrect.

There's a preview/first impressions in Polish. From what I understand:
-Drop in co-op which works when two players are in close proximity on the map and of similar character level.
-One of the characters is Sam B., a rapper.
-Apparently the main characters are immune to zombification, as Sam wakes up with bite marks, and promptly becomes the target of another survivor due to this.
-Diablo-like skill tree.
-No advanced NPC interaction apparently, preview mentions "no Fallout-like dialogues".
-Estimated 30 hours of main storyline. 300 sidequests.
-Firearms present but rare.
-Weapons detoriate.
-Aiming your weapon at different parts of the enemy yields appropriate results (including being able to kill a zombie with a critical broom handle hit to the noggin).
-Weapon crafting.
-Audio tapes (probably something like the *shock games).
-Harder enemies may make exploration of certain areas difficult at lower levels.
-Hubs of survivors, where we'll get most quests and find shops.
-Fast-travel between discovered hubs. Also cars hinted at, but may just be how fast-travel works.

There's also an English first impressions available.

I won't deny reading that hurt my anticipation of the game, but I'll still play it and probably love it, if only because I'm starved for an open-ended zombie game that isn't Dead Rising (Which is terrible, as I knew it would be)

That "harder enemies" thing sounds worrying, i want my ordinary zmobies here, no fancy pants mutants. If they mean some zombies that were special before, like SWAT teams or something that are armored and therefore harder to rekill than that could work.

The English preview mentions slow and fast zombies. The Polish one mentions seeing concept art of things that look barely human. There's also the screenshot of some big guy in a straightjacket (there's an asylum there? :|).

Note that there are also SWAT and prisoner zombies around, and it's going on next to a crashed armored van.  If there were crazy zombies just running around I'd be bothered but that situation makes sense so I'm okay with it.

I also dislike special zombies but I realize that killing the same enemies over and over again gets boring, and in a game that's primarily about killing zombies (As opposed to something like Dead State, which only has normal zombies but focuses on the human side of the story) you need something to spice things up.

Wiki says they are in Papa New Guinea but in a fictional city.

It's not like there's just a hotel in the middle of the jungle, there's a city too, and cities have prisons and all the people who spend their time in prisons.

The SWAT team might've been called in after the outbreak. Or that's not necessarily a SWAT guy, but an armoured van guard? Gotta have banks for the tourists after all.

Not sure about the insane person. Although it's someone very insane considering the Hannibal Lecter face mask. Maybe it's a zombie they thought was just a crazy person biting people, so they put him in that? I dunno.

According to the Polish preview, a fictional island called Banoi somehow modeled after New Guinea.

I think they're taking artistic license with Mr. Garland there, those are some hardcore restraints, and I'm betting he's one of the special infected, designed to charge the player and knock him off his feet so the other zombies can maul him.

It's primarily single-player so I doubt they're going to make other people save you.

You're wrong.
It is only stated that the game will not feature such moral dilemmas or choices&consequences as in Fallout or Dragon Age.

About the screenshots with the straight jacket man = If you look closely there are people in prisoner jump suits behind him, so it's probably a prisoner transport that's got waylaid by zombies.

@Cthulhu
It's not primarily single player oriented. If you would read and understand the Polygamia article, it is actually written there that the game is heavily Co-op oriented and built around this system, with drop in drop out system and the like.
