Any is fine. I play the vanilla myself. It just feels refreshing.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hurrah! The caravan has arrived! Quickly, I relay the orders to bring our extraneous goods to the depot. Food! And booze! This shall greatly bolster our larders and allow future leaders to focus on other, more important things.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Lielac has been taken by a fey mood, demanding a leatherworks to be built! I order one of the apprentice miners to construct one for him, and he claimed it the second it was completed. Let us hope he survives.

While this was going on, Valrandir met with the liaison, and arranged for the caravan to prioritize bringing food, drink, cattle, and steel the next year.

Then she traded most of our useless bone and hoof crafts for meat, fish, 'shrooms, wood, a bar of sterling silver, blocks of limestone and cobaltite, wood, and a steel spear. Oh, and some fire clay and rough glass gems.

Meanwhile, Lielac was screaming that he needed cut gems, so I ordered a makeshift Jeweler's shop built so that we could cut some gems for him.

Of all people, it was Dame Sir Drake herself who decided to come to the rescue and cut some of the green glass we had bought, allowing Lielac to begin work on what would, without a doubt, be the finest creation he would ever make.

EDIT: Lielac has finished his masterpiece!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He is now a legendary tanner! The name is particularly fitting, seeing as our group is called the Manor of Humility.  :)

Whooo, my dorf's a legendary tanner! couldn't have picked something more useful like crafting to mood on, you stupid dwarf?!

Are there any oddities associated with opening a save that uses a different tileset to the one used by the main DF program? I'm using Ironhand right now, is all, and if it's going to puke up weird symbols I'd like to know now instead of when my turn starts.

Lielac likes adamantine, magnetite, marble, the color olive green, battle axes, cats for their aloofness, dragons for their terrible majesty, women for their beauty, and the Oxford comma for its disambiguating properties. When possible, she prefers to consume pear cider and nectarines. She absolutely detests kobolds.

I am Valrandir, a Dwarf of Crafts thunder.
Today is the first of Granite, year 423.
EvilFuzzy finished his one year term, and now the Fortress is mine to mastermind.
Beware, I am Valrandir the overseer!
Hauling is over. The time has come to seize control.
We shall hold our first meeting under my rule.

Every important dwarf has been gathered in our meeting area, the Diorite dining room.
  • Valrandir
  • Lielac
  • Agatharchides
  • Johnfalcon
  • EvilFuzzy
  • Sir Drake

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Quote
Valrandir: “I am your new king leader.”
Valrandir: “What is our current situation?”
EvilFuzzy: “We established basic dwellings, with food and bonze production, bedrooms, a pasture, some storage and workshops”
Valrandir: “What about our current stocks?”
EvilFuzzy: “You are the bookkeeper, don’t ask me”
Valrandir: “SILENCE!!!”
Valrandir: “What about our offence and defenses?”
Sir Drake: “We have a square lead by myself but no proper equipment or even a barrack. Our entrances are wide open, except for a locked door in the farm area and some stone traps above.”
Valrandir: “Anything else to tell me?”
Johnfalcon: “We have no Anvil!”

Valrandir dismiss the meeting and retire to his office.

Our Fortress appears to be in a small mountain. We are digging into rock, but also have plenty grass and some trees outside. Our main entrance is semi hidden next to a brook. There we have two small stockpiles and a trade depot. A set of triple stairs go down 8 levels where we have our bedrooms. There is a long corridor going south connecting to our small dining room, and then another long corridor going to our farm and food production area.

We have enough food and drinks for the time being, let us do great things!

Current Stocks
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ok this is good enough.
Now we need more rooms!!!

3rd Granite, 423
Before we can start anything, we must have orders!
We shall have three classes; Lords, Military and Peons.
So shall it be.

4th Granite, 423
We need more wood for the stockpile, for barrels!
Agatharchides! Go cut lots of trees, we need barrels!

5th Granite, 423
What’s this? A Leather workshop right in the middle of the hallway.
I ordered it removed.

6th Granite, 423
The bed corridor is in the way, clear it and move the beds in the southern corridor until we are done.
Miners shall mine! And not haul stuff around.

7th Granite, 423
Lielac reports that a lamb was born.

13th Granite, 423
The mining is going well. I am also scheduling 50 mechanism and 10 floodgate to be built.

20th Granite, 423
Some migrants have arrived. I don’t have the time to sort them out, but it needs to be done! They can help with the work.
By ARMOK, 20 MIGRANTS!
This doubles our forces.
I soon realized that they are not awesome but merely average. Some of them claimed to have military experience; Sir Drake can sort them out eventually.

We now have 5 Lords, 3 Military and 33 Peons.

4th Slate, 423
Today I’ve realized how Johnfalcon is both our only Mason, and our only Mechanics.
How can my mechanics and rock floodgates be built then?
We need floodgates and they don’t need to be masterfully decorated with spikes of dirt.
 More masons have been assigned.

16th Slate, 423
A Peon withdraws from society. He claimed a craftsdwarf workshop.
Wild Yak Bulls have been sighted grazing outside.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

23th Slate, 423
Agatharchides  report that the wood cutting operation is going well but that logs are left to rot outside.
I order the peons to gather them south of the brook near our stone traps.

27th Slate, 423
The Peon Zas Ushatatol completed a Flute artifact. He is not a Legendary Stone Crafter!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

3th Felsite, 423
We have a Peon fishing, he caught some shiny Fish!
I’ve ordered the construction of a fishery.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also Mountain Goats have been spotted.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

13th Felsite, 423
Elves! Why! We don’t need them.
Let’s dump our useless stone crafts on them in exchange for things.
Ahh! We have nothing but BONE crafts. I’m on break now anyways and won’t trade with them just yet.
Let’s see how many stone crafts our Legendary crafter can make until I’m off from my break.

5th Hematite, 423
Cavein! The miners messed up. One Peon died, and Monum Dumatnog, Military, died as well.
They shall both be buried near the construction site.
The new stone industry area is operational,  Johnfalcon will build two quality coffins.

Another Peon has suffocated.

13th Hematite, 423
The elves have left. I had time to trade them 3 stone crafts in exchange for a few berries.

28th Hematite, 423
More migrants have arrived.
We now have 5 Lords, 2 Military and 38 Peons.

7th Malachite, 423
We need blocks. I commanded the constructions of 5 mason shops for peons to churn blocks repeatly and clear the great hall.

13th Malachite, 423
We need moar blocks! 10 more workshops are to be build now.

16th Galena, 423
Onul Asteshnitem  created an artifact millstone!
He is now a Legendary Mason of Doom.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

21st Galena, 423
A  goblin snatcher arrived.

18th Limestone, 423
A terrible failure occurred today.
The waterfall was activated, and much more water than expected flowed on the central platform, taking dwarves down the pit with it.
Twelves dwarves died before the emergency level deactivated the fall.
Clearly the design needs to be reviewed, but not before burying our death.

  • Aban Basenlogem, Peon had died after colliding with an obstacle.
  • ‘Sir Drake’ Rigothbetan, Military has died after colliding with an obstacle.
  • Inod Idenmeng, Peon has died after colliding with an obstacle.
  • Lorbam Solonrimtar, Peon has suffocated.
  • Medtob Edtulshem, Dwarven Baby has suffocated.
  • Shoract Shetbethurist, peon has died after colliding with an obstacle.
  • ‘Johnfalcon’ Udistnish, Lord has died after colliding with an obstacle.
  • Edim Kelcatten’ Military has died after colliding with an obstacle.
  • Iden Onolgamil, Peon has suffocated.
  • Minkot Idashdatan, Peon has suffocated.
  • ‘EvilFuzzy’ Cilobmomuz, Lord has suffocated.
  • Datan Uzolgesis, Peon has suffocated.

24th Limestone, 423
Migrants !! We are now back to 45 dwarves.

I'd like to join in please. My dorfing choice is for a mechanic and/or engineer if possible.

Oh and Valrandir, which tileset are you using? I don't think I've tried the one in your screenshot.

Yeah, I want to know the tileset aswell^^

Dwarf request:
Name: Krashnak
Job: Sharpshooter's Leader
Bio: Krashnak was sent to this new fortress on demand of the king of the mountainhomes himself to train the military dwarves down there to learn how to shoot, he is quite a social type of dwarf and certainly likes to drink much, however he takes his job not on the light hand, doing anything to be needed for defending the fort.

Yeah, that leatherworks had been built for Lielac. By the way, I had Drake equip the artifact leggings, in case you're curious.
