Promoted by the time you got there?  :p

I'm having problems finding people in general, my human adventurer started in a town that was populated by a grand total of one citizen - the high priest. The town was filled with furnitured hovels, and shops with wares, but there were absolutely no people.

Maybe he's a drunken high priest. If you were a high priest, would you go around telling people that you're an alcoholic?

Maybe they all left to settle in other towns.  Did you see any groups of migrants in the region?

Did you mistype, or are these indeed two different people with the same first name?

Yeah, "drunk" is the unit type, and "high priest" is the entity link affiliation.  It'll use one or the other depending on nothing in particular.  It should probably be cleaned up anyway, but the person in question was a drunken high priest.

Recruit the blighter!  Get someone to shout drunken prayers while you're smacking wildlife about.

Too much communion wine, perhaps?...

They won't give up civ leadership positions to head a religion at this point, so you'd have to mod it.  You could rarely get a regular soldier unit as a high priest if somebody manages to move up to high priest status from the city guard.
