How would bees react to cannabis...?

Determining this is a worthy scientific endeavor. I encourage you to find out at any cost.
Try it on Africanized Bees. Just to see how they react. I mean, my hypothesis is that we'll never hear from you again after you get stung to death by high bees, but it's for science!

Related to the original post, how much mead are you looking to make, and how much honey does that require? Where I am it's exactly 10 USD for a 36 oz container of pure, organic wildflower honey (clove honey is more expensive), which seems like a pretty good deal, based on what I've encountered in the past.

I'm looking to make 10 gallons to begin with, which would require approximately 528 oz of pure, unrefined honey.  That would bring it up to $146.66 for the honey alone (and I do believe that is a pretty good deal)

I'm thinking beekeeping may well be the way to go here.

Or you can sell a milk jug of mead for $20 and PROFIT. I'd also do a little research and see if you can't buy honey direct from the company making it on a website, thus going around retail markup.

I also wouldn't pay a premium for organic honey, although pure certainly is important. I see so little difference between organic pollen collected by insects and non-organic pollen collected by insects that if they're charging so much as a penny extra, screw them. What do you do to make inorganic honey? Feed the bees bovine growth hormones and caffine?

If you're looking for a beekeeper to talk to about this sort of thing, I think Buzzing_Beard (seems to hang out in the upper forums, knows a lot about beekeeping, has a thread about how to make DF's Beekeeping more bee-friendly and realistic) is the man to get in touch with. He may be able to point out where to get better deals on Honey, too.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are many different kinds of honey (depends on the flowers in the surrounding area that the bees collect pollen from). Some might produce a better flavor than others.

My friend's dad makes his own mead.

Stuff is terrible. Not sure if it's just mead in general that tastes that way, or just the stuff my buddy's dad produces.

I love beer and wine, and (some) liquors, so I was rather surprised that I found mead to be so revolting.

Alternatively, you could attempt to ferment mead from the 99 cent cornsyrup "hybrid" stuff.

Or he could just take coca-cola, call it mead, and drink it.

As a Californian, I approve of hemp-honey developments. You'd have to see if the pollen actually contains any of the active ingredients, of course.

I don't partake myself, but my region is one of the most active in terms of this particular class of agriculture, so I've gained a bit of knowledge from osmosis.

Terribly sorry to hear. A lot of modern beer-drinkers and wine-lovers do seem to find it revolting, from what I hear. If you want to give mead an honest try, treat (or force) yourself to some Chaucers, english import.

Mead is my favorite beverage, (and conversely, I can't stand most beer) though I prefer the less viscous stuff, cool and unspiced. It's smooth, and the 'buzz' is always so warm, cheerful, and lucid. :)

I don't think anyone has asked this yet, but just to be safe: you aren't allergic to bee stings, right?

Heh, well I don't particularly -like- them, but they've never killed me before.
