You can use scented candles for a more exotic flavour ;D

Isn't that very unhealthy?

As opposed to drinking unscented wax.

Alternatively, look for a bee keeping association near you. They should help you get started.

Bee keeping, from what I've heard, is quite easy, and you get something like 30-100lb (conflicting sources, someone verify please?) of honey just from one hive over a year. You could make the honey directly, then make mead from it, and sell it for a bit less then the price for the stuff at the grocery store, which is probably of lesser quality, and make a hefty profit from it. Or you could drink it yourself.

In any case, good luck!

Hi!

My father is bee-keeper amatour (3 hives).

He get a various number of honey: for example 15kg or 80kg yearly.

This depend on weather in year.

(sorry for my mistakes and bad english)

Really, if you want honey and don't wish to be stung, put a beehive in a corner of your garden, as far away from the house as possible. Just remember: Smoke is your friend.

Curiosity: Does it have to be a particular kind of smoke, such as the conventional dark wood smoke? How would bees react to cannabis...?

Burning burlap is supposedly the best kind of smoke to calm and separate the bees, but burlap is surprisingly difficult to get hold of in the modern world.  Twine or hemp rope would probably work - try a hardware store.

A beekeeping relative of mine uses a kind of mushroom for making smoke. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's fairly large, grey, extremely hard for a mushroom (almost wood-like) and grows on trunks of beech trees.

Quote from: wiki
Many types of fuel can be used in a smoker as long as they are natural and uncontaminated with harmful substances. These fuels include hessian, burlap, pine needles, corrugated cardboard, paper egg cartons, and rotten or punky wood. Some beekeeping supply sources also sell commercial fuels like pulped paper and compressed cotton.

Related to the original post, how much mead are you looking to make, and how much honey does that require? Where I am it's exactly 10 USD for a 36 oz container of pure, organic wildflower honey (clove honey is more expensive), which seems like a pretty good deal, based on what I've encountered in the past.

How would bees react to cannabis...?

Determining this is a worthy scientific endeavor. I encourage you to find out at any cost.
