As far as I'm concerned, any Pokemon that aren't your starter are just decoration.  Yeah, the rival's a bitch if you play like that but honestly if you're older than 10 and not playing Nuzlocke Pokemon is kind of a joke difficulty-wise.

This is basically what made me stop playing after D/P. The game was so easy once I understood the underlying mechanics at length, and it didn't feel "complicated" enough, I guess. I remember it being really complicated when I was a young'un, but that's because my small mind ignored the fine details and found it magical.

I still play this though occasionally, it's essentially a huge online Pokemon rip-off. But that's because I'm taking server side scripting and data handling, and it's fun to study and observe (and sometimes fun in general too)

This is why I have several methods of playing the game.

1. Starter goes into the box immediately, use a different pokemon.
2. Level up a balanced party.
3. NUZLOCKE.
4. NUZLOCKE+ (MANGRIT MODE)

Though I've heard that Black and White are supposed to have much better AI for the enemies. MANGRIT MODE will be fantastic in an entirely new region full of far more difficult enemies than I've ever seen. Especially because all the Pokemon are new, too.

Personally I disagree with the starter pokemon only opinion.
I've started Sapphire again and I have three setups
1: Ralts-Kirlia-soon to be Gardevoir kills shit like a pro
2. Mudkip-Marshtomp-whatever it becomes also kills stuff well
3. Party entirely composed of Zigzagoons. Headbutt everything to death, or worse. Also pickup Ultra Balls, Nuggets, Rare Candy, etc. randomly.

My little sister is a mudkip fanatic. I remind her at every opportunity that
1) He uses his ass fins to swim into mud
2) 4X weakness to grass

He didn't say is was a no-starter set-up, just that its not a starter-only one.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Crystal was the first I ever played, when I was ten or so. I'm doing a slightly modified Nuzlocke run on Crystal now and am grinding for the Elite Four right now.

Fourth link down.

I don't understand all this 'remembering Pokemon' stuff. Black & White is on the verge of being here, I'm older than most of the posters in the thread, and I am eagerly anticipating it.

I know what nuzlocke is. What is the nuzlocke+ that Barbarosa is talking about?

In that case, you have my apologies, because google claims he made it up himself.

Damn straight.

I started with Nuzlocke, and then I won really easily. I then made it harder for the second run. I'll be using these rules for my first run of Pokemon Black, though I'll have to get the number of Pokemon to use in each gym battle from a friend. No other outside info, though. I've kept myself in the dark for a reason, and that reason is the ultimate challenge.

*ahems*  I CAUGHT A SHINY MINCCINO =D

First shiny Pokemon I've ever even seen in the wild.  Woot!

Also, Pokemon Black and White are out in Europe and the US.  Discuss.
