lookin awesome. are you planin to make veins of copper available? surface ores, atleast

No metals. Far too overpowered for the simplicity that I want this mod to be. Back to basics, with leather and wood.

I can make you a graphics set when I have some time today.

Also diggable surface ores sound like fun. Also, meteoric iron, as rare soil deposits?

P.S. It starts to look like a more serious "kobold camp", and I greatly enjoy it. Did you think about leather/cloth beds (as hammocks/bedrolls)?

There is a minority (or majority?) of people who enjoy graphic sets, and I havn't dabbled in such before, so that would be greatly appreciated, as an alernative version!

No Metals. :D

I love these above-ground villages moreso than underground settlements by far, far more challenging to get defences up.

You can make leather/cloth beds...? Would that be through reactions? Sounds interesting.

Also, replace gems with fossils, so they would be rare bone decorations (and probably fuel).

Gems are pretty much unreachable anyway. You can't dig through rock. I'll replace it with something pretty though, for the rare outcrop.

By the way, did you leave pottery in? It was widely used at that time period. Also I feel that beekeeping should be in too, it was one of the ancient food gathering methods, and it's fun.

I actually havn't had a chance to play with the new version's features yet! I've been modding constantly, so, I'll possibly keep those in, after I've had a play with vanilla.

Will this be adventure mode compatible? So we can have awsome Mesolithic heros? (Or mass murderers!)

Yes... Eventually. Right now you can walk through the village, equipped with a bow, spear and such, dressed in simple leather/wool clothing. Choke people in their sleep. Hunt birds and game with a bow, in the wild, so forth.
Lots of fun. I can't wait to test out the new wildmen, though.

Is it possible to have tattoos or some kind of body paint? It would be cool to have my warriors charge into battle with all kinds of crazy tattoos.

Actually, yes, I can think of a way to do this... How to limit the material to just paint, rather than wool/leather though, will probably require its own reaction... I'll add that in later, at some point, when I create paint. From clay, likely. See Below.

Quote from: Wikipedia
History

Cave paintings drawn with red and yellow ochre, hematite, manganese oxide, and charcoal may have been made by early Homo sapiens as long as 40,000 years ago...

...Paint was made with the yolk of eggs and therefore, the substance would harden and stick onto the surface applied. Pigments were made from plants, sands, and different soil types.

...Natural pigments include various clays, calcium carbonate, mica, silicas, and talcs.

40000 years ago. Hematite. So, unlikely? :)

You should definitely include clay. It's one of the most important industries at the time.

Looking at the amount of downloads of Genesis ver., I can assure you that graphics likers are a big majority.

And yes, you cannot dig through rock, but you can dig through the soil, and there're aboveground deposits. So you should definitely turn gems into something useful.
Fossils sounds good to me.

You can do almost anything (with limitations) through reactions. And all of jobs in DF are reactions :).

I'll take all of the above into account, heh. I'm still not quite sure how you can make furniture through reactions, though, I havn't tried that one before!

You know, you're alot less intimidating when your display pic doesn't show up.

With wood being the primary building material, and with the mushroom trees and caverns likely removed, you might find wood supplies running low. Perhaps a reaction that turns a log into 5 wooden blocks is order? On the topic of building materials perhaps leather blocks could be made to simulate tents?

I like the reaction idea.

I can see "leather blocks" getting out of hand and clunky, however! :)

I was less sure of the leather blocks myself; Being able to fortify your position with them makes no sense.

I already know what map I'll be generating for this. Might need to change it to fit how it's thought to have looked back then.
While this tool is excellent I felt it was missing a certain Britishness...
So I made the British Isles using a modified heightmap from Transport Tycoon.
Heightmap:

Large Island World I generated from it:

Definitely no mining rock? I can see why, to prevent people from building underground. Making surface ores mineable would be reasonable, as people tended to follow the veins and ignore the surrounding rock, anyway. Being able to mine soft stones like chalk is one of the reasons we were able to disperse so widely - stones suitable for making tools aren't just littering the ground everywhere.
Since caves were significant sites both from a strictly materialist point of view as focuses of wealth - paintings and other art tend to be concentrated on cave sites - and in that they may have been religious sites, perhaps you could adjust the world gen settings to produce more caves and set them to be displayed on the world map by default? You could maybe also give humans caves as a preferred site type, though that might be a bit much since they probably didn't live with them.

i think i'll mod copper weapons, though... it's not really that strong, but is harder to work with, actually, i've had hard times penetrating leather with copper daggers, a good stone can easily be better. copper armor might be a bit too much, though...

i'm fine with agriculture out of the picture, though, but will the civs survive in the newest version without it?

The reason why there're no copper weapons is that is a Stone Age. I am sure you can make a mod with an appropriate period of time. I would be okay with no metals :).

It would be nice to have 3 entities, each with a different lifestyle.

Paleolithic: Lives in cave, hunter-gatherer.
Mesolithic: Lives in small villages, hunter-gatherer
Neolithic: Lives in large villages, farmers.

Maybe the paleolithics would be best modded a animals, roaming the land?

well, there is this one age called the chalcolithic, though (circa 4000 in europe and near east)

Paleolithic: Lives in cave, hunter-gatherer.
Mesolithic: Lives in small villages, hunter-gatherer

actually, agriculture probably appeared before sedentarism, given that there's little reason for a hunter gatherer tribe to settle

perhaps separate them by trades: a farmer and herdsmen society, a fishing society and hunter gatherer tribes

Funny, I always learned the contrary. That when an area was productive enough, hunter-gatherer would settle down, maybe moving from one village to the next every six months or so.

moving every six moths counts as nomadic, i think

on the other hand, for somebody to discover that seeds grow into plants one must stay in one place long enough to notice it... eh, i don't know anymore
