I think I'm going to mod my chickens to have, say, POISON. That ought to weaponize them enough, lol.

Aside, yeahhhhh chickens don't give up. EVER. It might be like owls - one raised in captivity will NEVER STOP TRYING TO MURDER YOU.

I have been laughing this whole thread. Weaponizing chickens sounds like a good plan, though.

But my big question is are we still able to pack all the extra animals (like newborn chicks and kittens, etc.) into one cage? Or do we need separate cages? I aware of the stacking thing, but I've not downloaded the new version yet to test this out.

Animals have always been able to pack into cages.  Grazing animals will starve in a cage, sadly, because there's no "feed" item yet, but I'm not sure how the new "angry at being packed in tight" works with cages.

Reading this, I went through the three stages of Dwarf Fort inspiration.

I laughed.
I pondered.
I loaded up DF and started planning for weaponized poultry. I shall call it: Mean Eggs and Ham.

50 chickens and 50 warthogs in a 1x1 area with a door linked to a lever?
Or even better, 50 elephants?

Somewhere out there, right now, Toady sits on the master controls of the game.  There, on his desk, is a modest sticky note containing the god-code, which when punched in, will unlock the game's true potential and unveil all the darkest, most astounding, and most glorious things that we've never even thought of.

He lets it stay there, as he knows deep inside that if it was ever leaked to the community, the level of atrocities would skyrocket as heaven itself was weaponized.  He fears what we of twisted mind will do.

Deeper inside of him, more devious and more subtle, a dark voice whispers, "They're not ready.  They could not utilize this power yet.  Give them time, let them cut their teeth on eggs and bees, and they will learn to be true demons.  Then, they will be ready to use the power."

Think I can fit that into a sig reasonably?

Well, supports on the top level actually hook themselves (and ONLY the thing immediately under them) to the sky.  So, build a floor over the entire sky, fill it with supports, then remove the support you used to build it, and you can drop each of those floor tiles individually.

At least in theory, according to the !!SCIENCE!! books forum posts I read.  I haven't actually completed the Chicken Little plan just yet.....  Hmm... I wonder if there's any way to use actual chickens to increase its effectiveness?

You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

It's only a theory. No one's done it yet, or that thread would've been legendary. At least, it should be. If it happened and I missed it, I will be very sad.

You can use formed obsidian walls in the same way. But of course you can't drop them on things as reliably if you do that.

Yeah, I believe the problem is that support doesn't spread to adjacent things via stuff attached to the sky.  So people could do crazy things on the top z-level, but one level down,  you couldn't build anything without real support.

You'd probably have to stick to a 2x2 embark to avoid going crazy, though.  Link X to lever takes forever :(

I've gone from thinking about chicken traps to cockfighting to bull fighting, and now, finally, with all this talk of the sky, chicken ODST.

Do cages break if they are built on a tile that collapses?

On collapse, yes, but there's a bug (in .18 at least) that causes furniture to float if the tile under it is safely removed, such as deconstructing a wall under a bed.  Cages will float, and will respond to lever pulls while floating.  Just keep in mind that chickens will starve.
