I don't know about hens, but I put some nest boxes right outside my fort and a bun of ducks ran up and immediately claimed them.

Then I started seeing these messages like "Urist McHauler cancels store item in stockpile: interrupted by duck"

What are these? The evil ducks of death? To stop them from disrupting my dwarfly activities I had to put them all in joint locks and kill them with a few punches to the head. These are the most annoying ducks I've ever seen.

I had turkeys rush in and kill my peacocks who were using their nests.  Wild animals claiming nests is turning into a large headache...

You can use the nexting by having some nests near an entrance to your fort and surrounding them with cage traps.

On weaponizing chickens: They attack but don't do much damage, you say? I propose: CHICKEN DANGER ROOM!
Why go through the effort of making lots of spears when instead you can train your soldiers in surviving the wrath of the chicken horde.

Confirming wild animals stealing nest boxes. Build decoy nests away from your livestock pasture(s) and do what you want with them as the wildlife will orbit around the nests indefinitely. I prefer to let them take the decoy nests as I get eggs that way - probably won't hatch though.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

I embarked with about a hundred bunnies and a few chooks then basically ignored them while trying to breach an aquifer, untill i got a message about my expedition leader fighting something.
Suffice to say the bunnies did not fare well :(

On the chicken danger room, wouldn't the soldiers just murder all of your hens?

Much better to have your cockfighting arena. Or just add chickens to the line up of your normal arena, or "feed" your hydra/megabeast/GCS live chickens to keep it healthy

Strip your dorfs and train them in wrestling, .... lock them in a small room with Buffalo..
Fun shall ensue

Have your nest in a tunnel, so you can place the traps more efficiently and catch flying things.

About animal injuries, apart from the occasional counterattack, your dwarfs do not actually attack the animals.

OOOH, I got it. Have your fortress as one long super-corridor.
Put a stack of Bufflo in a cage at one end.
At the other end, put a set of nest boxxes.
Mod Bufflo to lay eggs.
Restrict all dorfs to a burrow that encompasses that corridor and nothing more.
Release ufflo.

You there have the Running of the Bulls.

Can you get a named weapon if a dwarf kills 100 bunnies?

You can get a named weapon without kills.  It seems to depend on the user's skill level.

Attention duelists: My hair sats that they attack the other chickens too. It is moreloike chicken battle royale, so, if you enclose them for a weapon, only one will survive.
