Reading this, I went through the three stages of Dwarf Fort inspiration.

I laughed.
I pondered.
I loaded up DF and started planning for weaponized poultry. I shall call it: Mean Eggs and Ham.

This alone made me consider getting the new version, no metal and unseeable aquifers or no.

50 chickens and 50 warthogs in a 1x1 area with a door linked to a lever?

Can chickens at least be put off by punching them once? I don't think a chicken would continue scratching you if you punched it. Actually, I don't think a chicken would continue scratching you if you made eye contact with it.

You don't know your fowl very well. Ever get chased by a goose?

Nope, but I've seen it happen. The goose stopped chasing when the guy turned around and kicked it. The kick wasn't a DIE! kick, more of a gtfo kick, and it was enough to put the bird off.

Weaponization: Make a 1 tile pasture zone.  Put it behind a locked door.  Goblins arrive, open the door.  Chickensplosion.

Oh god, the new version has only been released for maybe 24 hours and plans are already being drawn up for weaponized domesticated chickens.

I LOVE YOU GUYS!

When I was a kid, I was chased by a particular rooster frequently. On one occasion, I grabbed a log of firewood, turned around, and whacked the rooster in the head with it. It stopped, shook its head, and resumed pursuit.

It also survived about four or five attacks from pit bulls. When the owner decided to kill it, he wrung its neck, then watched it get up, and repeated that process twice before he got his .40 caliber blackpowder rifle and shot it twice.

(It was super-chickenly tough.)

That's the kind of chicken I want in my fort.

I really don't see the chances for weaponized chickens, as really, they barely do any damage. When fighting something as little as cavies, they can barely do more then denting the skin. Now, imagine this on invaders. I see no potential for their use in traps. Dwarven cockfighting maybe, but definitely not traps.

EDIT: What monster have I created? It was just an example.

Imagine if you didn't have a ribcage (or had gaping holes in it)

Is it worth pointing out that ribcages do have gaping holes in them?  Otherwise you'd have a solid chest and breathing would be a tad more difficult than it currently is.

(Still, sounds fun.  Too busy over the last two days to get .19 downloaded and set up, but gotta find time to do so tomorrow.)

Right, but by "gaping holes" I mean in the sense that if someone punched you, there's a very significant chance they wouldn't even get in the way. It seems to me that there are six ribs, each with a 5% (assuming that "5" is a percent) chance of getting in the way, and I don't think all the ribs apply to any given attack to begin with. Even if each of the six had a chance, a given attack has a 74% (approx.) chance of bypassing the ribs entirely. There's also no real breastbone, or collarbones, or shoulder blades, nor do your arms really protect your sides.

I bet that Chickens will be the new Carp!
But really, goblins would be screwed when they see a angry chicken that survived a chicken free for all!
