DO NOT PUT HENS ON A CLOSED RECINT OR THEY WILL ATTACK EVERYBODY!
I have a tantrum spiral inside my henhouse because 15 chicks just hatched and there is not enough space for them. Be careful!
My chief medical dorf just got a bruised lung from one of them...

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

I'm having the same thing, except my hens are not enclosed and they attack my cavies...

Well, he did say that the animals could become violent if they were crowded together for too long.   :D

the chicks and puppies my immigrants brought started attacking everybody too... until I made my meeting area bigger.

Animals not restricted in their movement love sitting around in meeting areas

Animals get aggressive if they have to share their tile with some other creature
+
Small meeting area to encourage friendships

I suppose I should check the release notes more.

Clearly, this can be weaponized with cages and a tiny meeting area as part of an access path.
... Make the chickens able to learn, too.

You sure some elf in a goofy green cap hasn't been hitting your hens with a sword?  ;)

Weaponization: Make a 1 tile pasture zone.  Put it behind a locked door.  Goblins arrive, open the door.  Chickensplosion.

This is obviously implemented weird and buggy, but in concept, chickens getting pissed off and attacking each other because they don't have enough room is pretty much exactly what happens in the real world.

Regarding "bruised lungs", blame that on the fact that the only bones protecting those organs are the ribs, and the ribs only rarely protect against attack in DF. Imagine if you didn't have a ribcage (or had gaping holes in it), and you'll see what I mean.

Can chickens at least be put off by punching them once? I don't think a chicken would continue scratching you if you punched it. Actually, I don't think a chicken would continue scratching you if you made eye contact with it.
