Land of Eternal Rain
« on: February 05, 2008, 06:15:00 am »

This may be more of a feature than a bug, but I'll report it anyway.

I have a fort spanning a (tropical?) freshwater lake and a tropical freshwater swamp.  The temperature is either warm I think, as the western edge of the lake freezes for about a month in winter, which I don't think happens in hot weather.

Anyway, it began raining when I started my fort.  I'm in the mid-summer of year 2 and it hasn't stopped (I searched my announcements carefully).

Welcome to Nerzotir, land of eternal rain.

Did you fiddle with the weather on/off settings in the ini while it was raining? I had this happen back in the 2d version when I did that.

The west side of the map might be a colder biome, which does freeze for a short time.

It could be a feature. You might have embarked to a rainforest of some sort.

There are actually places on Earth where it rains almost constantly. One in Bangladesh and the other is in South America near some waterfall.

The part about the waterfall seems pretty natural :P

Afaik it's Kerepakupai, where water was enough time to evaporate during the 3000ft+ drop and then condensates in a relatively cold air layer, a couple hundred ft above the ground, causing near constant rain above the lake at the bottom.

PTTG:  The seed is useless as of today.  Even if you use 33g, you might not get the same result.  I have heavily modded raws, you see.

Also, fun fact:  Constant rain means more shrubs and trees than you can shake a stick at.  I think there was an average of 3 trees per 5x5 square or so.  Pretty heavily forested.  And with the rate at which saplings were sprouting, it'd probably get even denser over time.
