Winter is coming!

A game of a Thrones is a upcoming RTS game based on the Song of ice and fire books and will be coming out sometime this year.

The game plunges you into the world as one of the battling houses fighting for rule of the land. But this game is not just pumping out units like other RTS but the player can also use a Mix of political powers and Economics to take control of the world. so there's much more to it. And from the screen shots ( look below) the game also looks like a real time 4X game. And is also set before the Song of fire and ice books ( which is why there are dragons in the game ( in the books they are already extinct)

Multiplayer is also featured in the game.

      The Campaign acts a tutorial for learning the game mechanisms. The story takes the player through 700 years of Westeros from the arrival of the Rhoynar and their queen, Nymeria, up to the present day including Aegon's Conquest, the Dance of the Dragons or the Blackfyre Rebellion. Also they said that they are looking into Co-op


Now for all the real info, the info that has to do with multiplayer.

      A game in multiplayer can support up to 8 players whether they be player or AI controlled.
      Map size will vary according to the number of players.
      Players choose one of the noble houses to play as and each house will play differently.

In order to win a game, you collect prestige. There are five ways to collect prestige: diplomacy (by having the most loyal landlords), economy, warfare, obtaining support of the Septons(Sept give a steady increase in prestige), and completing secondary side missions. Prestige for all the families are displayed on screen.

Games are divided into two parts Peace and War. At the top of the screen is an indicator of how close War is. Negative acts move you closer to War and positive one move you further away.

The game begins in the Peace phase

          You send out messengers to villages to secure alliances, or marry of women from your court for blood alliances.
          Once you get an alliance with a village, they start sending you resources.
          Kill opponents messengers or resource gathers.
          Steal villages from your opponent, openly or secretly.
          Make units such as :
                knights
                infantry
                bowmen
                assassins
                spys
                siege engines
          Get married and have children.
          Make pacts, break pacts with players.


Eventually War starts. I think that it is pretty self explanatory what you are suppose to do. OH! Once War starts, you can't claim anymore villages so you are stuck with the resources you got :/

Here are a few other mechanics that I ran across but don't really know where to put them. I suppose you could do them anytime.

          Hire mercenaries.
          pay off opponents mercenaries.
          Assassinate!
          Seduction
          Fake armies.
          Turncoats(I guess this is your army betraying you)


One last thing, here is an interesting quote

    Any plans for a demo or beta test before the game is released?

    I doubt that any game goes out the door without being demoed and beta tested. However, that's a question for our publisher.

It looks too much like a generic RTS, I was hoping for something more strategic with stronger atmosphere. :/ Well, at least the HBO serie seems fine, based on the first episode.

This is what i hear about almost every 4x or RTS every year.

"we are doing it different, its totally not a generic RTS" then i go play it, and its generic. lol

Blurgh, they should've just made a Crusader Kings-esque game set in A Song of Ice and Fire's universe.

You could always cut out the middle-man, although it naturally has faults related to the engine in its own right.
