Obsession with... mining games?
« on: February 17, 2011, 11:18:52 am »

I don't know why, but I just love games about mining.

MineCraft,
Dwarf Fortress,

Yeah.
What's up with that?

Isn't making this thread similar to going to an anime convention and telling everyone you see that you like anime?

Isn't it just sort of expected?

Wurm is interesting for mining, if painfully slow.

Also, there's no discussion.  This is the kind of thing that goes on Facebook, or just stays inside your head, not a forum.

Let's apply some reasoning skills. We need an exeption that proves the rule.
Go play spelunky, if you enjoy that to an unreasonable degree, then it isn't that 'You love mining games', but rather 'You love games with a strong cave/underground  theme'

Guys, don't brush him off. Obviously the correlations drawn between a sizeable pool of two games indicates his true preference for gaming to a profound degree. Why, I myself am a fan of both Tetris and Q-Bert, and from that I am beginning to come to term with my fetish for square and cubic shapes.

Don't you have a signed DVD of "Rhomboid Sluts 12"?

What kind of polygonophile would I be if I didn't? Yeah, the actor who played Pizza Delivery Pentagon was kind enough to sign a copy for me.

I bet you liked Portal, too.

So...

If Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft, and Portal were mixed into one super game...

We'd probably have the most amazingly addicting mining/dwarf simulation with cool physics puzzles and blocks with lots of FUN and crazy AIs, beards, people made of blocks and slaughtering elves with endless lava spouts and...

Well... it'd be awesome.

There's another dwarf mining game called Delve Deeper that may be riding on the mining trend.  The game is... meh though, not a lot of content.  Play one game against some computer players and you've seen it all really.  With no endless mode, or skirmish mode, or the ability to play on randomized maps, it's pretty dull.

I plan on making a reconfiguring Aperture Science fortress as soon as moving fortress parts are in.

So my crundles are staying intact unless they're newly spawned... until they are exposed to anything that isn't at room temperature.  This mostly seems to mean blood, specifically, their own.  Then they go poof very quickly.
