What if you make a trader a Vermin Creature?

Would they even come?
Would they trade?
Will hungry dwarfs come out and eat them?
Will cats kill them?

Indeed, i'd like to know.

If it works relatively well, i'll mod in a species of sentient mouse-people and their ultra-tiny equipment, just for the sheer hilarity.

Wouldn't they be able to teleport because they're vermin?

I actually did this in 40d!

I didn't really spend much time playing fortress mode in that game though, I mainly used that mod for adventure mode.

Here's a LINK to a later version of it in which I had removed the vermin tags to correct some strange placement behavior in world-gen, but which has tiny versions of most weapons and armors (including many custom weapons and armors stolen from other mods such as Genesis (there's also a few other things stolen from other mods in it too)). There's also a bunch of other custom stuff in the mod in addition to the mice, because I kept just adding stuff whenever I got an interesting idea.

Wait, did you make the mice weapons seperate from the weapons in Genesis? Because I'm taking no chances with duped raws.

Yes. Yes I did. After I scaled an object down (using a standard formula which I made up somewhat arbitrarily and which eluses me at the moment) I would add "_MOUSE_" or something like that somewhere in the item name. The mouse weapons and armors are also in seperate files, whose names generally include the word "mouse" or "mice"

(Note however that the file I linked to also has the originals of many of the the genesis weapons too though, as basically I just grabbed the "...raw/objects"  and "...data/speech" folders that I was using for that game and stuck them in a zip file.)
