The problem being that it's very hard to prove that you gave someone HIV.  Did person A infect person B?  Did person B infect person A?  Were they both, through whatever intermediaries, infected by person C?

I guess that's where "Illegal to not declare HIV positivity" comes in, although that leads to the problem that noone will ever want to take a test.

Its actually not as hard as it looks.  HIV has a very high rate of mutation and is really easy to do genetic sequencing on.  If you have a large bunch of genetic sequences like that its relatively easy to see which person HIV looks like another persons HIV.  The lab I work at actually did this for a police investigation here in Canada.

Admittedly that is not even close to proof, but its very good evidence.

Yeah, then we are hooped.  HIV transmittal at an orgy could be difficult to track.    Lets hope A has been keeping track of partners.

AIDS: Your immune system is dying. The HIV virus has destroyed enough of your T-Cells to severely hamper your ability to fight off infections. There is medication that helps, but it's just delaying the inevitable as simple bacteria or the common cold horribly kills you.

Actually, they can still potentially* be rescued with antirretroviral therapy. In fact, back when it began, AIDS was treated fairly late, both because many cases had begun before ARVT was avaiable, and because the early ones had far worse side effects.

*assuming they're not already afflicted with something immediatedly deadly (eg: cancer, AIDS-related encephalitis, a very advanced, very bad general status pneumonia, etc...)
