Yes. As I said, this is important because we couldn't do this previously. With enough tuning there shouldn't be the need for gloves or anything such to stop your hands getting burned/frozen when holding the thing in the first place, and there's no reason why carrying it around for a few turns should kill you any more (well, melt all your fat).

I tried making chicken eggs in a nest box via smelter reaction, but the egg came out labeled as "egg" and didn't appear properly inside the nest box once it was built. A crundle then claimed the nest box, and ran up from the caverns to sit on it and place crundle eggs.

That's right, wild animal will claim your nests and lay eggs on it.  I'm amazed by this and the amounts of abuse that can be used, like catching any given animal by making them lay eggs and putting a nest surrounded by eggs.
I haven't updated yet.  Is the new version crazier than I realize, or did you mean to say "cage traps" instead of "eggs"?
It's pretty crazy, but I did indeed mean to say cage traps.

I don't think you can put them in the nest box.  Like a workshop, deconstructing it causes it to pop out.  It's not a cage that holds something like that.  Artificial eggs may be difficult...  Btw there's a thread over in yonder modding forum that shows how to generate an egg.  Getting them into an egg box and hatched... hmm.

Nono. The cage traps are laid by kobolds.

Self-catching kobolds.  When they get too excited they egg, dropping a cage trap at their feet that immediately captures them.  Thus, when you get "Skulking Fiend!" or such, you'll immediately see a caged kobold thief!

Kobolds are trapavoid. They eat cage trap defended forts for breakfast.
(hence, possibly, the whole laying cage traps thing)

they can't egg without a nesting box though, maybe you need a syndrome that makes them emit a nest gas which they will sit inside to lay a cage trap egg, catching themself inside?
Since they have trapavoid they would also need to emit a paralysis gas to make the trap trigger.Or make the egg emit that gas as it's shell.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

They're trapavoid while stealth.  Once spotted, they're easy.

Either way, I've taken to goose breeding. That one-in-a-million golden egg laying caste is too good not to try for.

Can we change nest boxes's name? I'd love to call them "toilet" and eggs "waste product".

Wow, we thought of that at almost the same time on different threads....

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

I've recently had a Giant Eagle broken into my fort through the bee hive tower to lay some eggs in my hen boxes! (The nests were in the middle of the meeting hall) This resulted in a dead dog, dead eagle itself and some injured dwarves.

Awesome!

This is amazing!  I think we can actually weaponize these if we make enclosed areas with nest boxes near siege points.  When the siege comes, open the doors/hatches, giant eagles swoop down, and hopefully fight gobbo as they try to lay.

Just imagine when cave crocs decide to path their way through your entire fort, hell-bent on claiming that one egg box on the surface.
