Funniest thread I've read in a while.

Seriously, the US has enough people in it still bitching about the first merger after the civil war.  You seriously think any other is even on the cards, let alone practicable?  This doesn't even rate the name conspiracy theory.  It's just plain old crazy.

I think Nationalism is pointless. We're specks, living on a speck, which is orbiting a speck, which is one of many specks in a larger speck, and so on until you get up to the 'voids and filaments' structures (Voids of empty space, filaments of galaxy superclusters). We should just focus on getting off this dirtball.

Also we Canadians would of course become the overlords, we would bribe any dissenters with our supperior alchohol.

I'm a canadian, too. And we're going to have to settle on other specks (until we develop technologies and such to allow us to build large-scale orbital habitats like O'Neill Cylinders and Banks Orbitals and such.) if we want to survive in the long run.

Vorthon... exactly what do you think this thread is about? We're talking about the present, not hundreds of years in the future. Planetary colonization is not on the table right now, and nobody's going to say "oh we should stop being nationalist because eventually we will have to populate other worlds generations after we're dead."

Well, from what I gathered reading the thread, it's devolved into an discussion about nationalism. And, I'm just thinking about the survival of the species. 7 billion people is a lot for a garden world like Earth to support.
