I've been under a lot of stress recently and lacking quality sleep. But, I do get Sunday to relax and I did get a new bed installed today. So I hope to remedy that.

Just saying scary sounding things (uh, you know water is generally irradiated in the purification process, right?  And that you're confusing "irradiated" (has been exposed to radiation) and "contaminated" (is emitting radiation)) doesn't make a valid argument.

I'd agree that a lot of supplements are worthless, but it's really up to you whether you buy them or not.

Thundercraft, I have serious trouble believing you on several of those points. Food today contains only a small fraction of nutrients of food available decades ago? How? If soil is running out of vital minerals, where are they going? How are the plants surviving despite lacking them? If the plants don't need them, why do they produce the vitamins at all? How is the rest of the ecosystem surviving?

And what's so bad about irradiating food? It sounds like a brilliant idea to me. Killing all the bacteria, fungi and insects in food really does give it a longer shelf life. I really don't see any reason not to.

And how are dietary supplements related to the pharmaceutical industry? They're not medicine. They're dietary supplements. Nutrients, for people who think they might not be getting all the nutrients they need from food.

We don't actually irradiate food, at least not last I heard, specifically because of insane fearmongering about it. People hear "irradiated" and go batshit insane. Sunlight registers higher on a geiger counter than food sterilized with radiation.

Actually, I believe we do do that, at least in some places. It's cheaper, more effective, and healthier than purifying water by filling it with poisonous chemicals to kill everything in it, then trying to filter all those chemicals back out.

We do that in Belgium, but it's irradiated by light (gamma ray), so it won't make food radioactive.and I believe it's how it's done worldwide, mainly because I don't see how you would do it efficiently with anything else.
I do believe that industrial food have less nutriment in it but have nothing to back it up. So it's weightless .

This is a decent wikipedia article on the subject of using UV to kill microorganisms, including in water purification. However, as Phmcw has pointed out, this is apparently not the only method that uses radiation.
