I'll post the same thing as always, when sombody asks for this kind of game.
Riviera: The Promised Land for the GBA.
Movement isn't part of combat though, however there are formations.

Very few people know about it, however it's a great game.
But no one listens to my advice anyway...

I've played the PSP version of that, it's worth every penny.

I just decided to give wakfu another try. Its STILL IN CLOSED BETA, for what, 2 years now, but at least it appears they're going in a direction that doesn't make it a dofus clone. Only 3-4 classes availiable still.

I'll just repeat the recommendation of JA2. The mercs interact with each other in interesting ways, there are some side-quests, and the game really requires tactics to win. Ought to run on anything considering it's old and 2d.

Silent Storm is also fun, but more so due to highly destructible environments. I mean, the different classes provide some variety, but eventually it falls into a rock-paper-scissors sort of gameplay, where everything becomes routine quite quickly. Although the expansion pack Sentinels ups the difficulty considerably, giving you limited resources (having to actually purchase equipment and hire mercs) and somewhat tougher scenarios.

Any single front mission, they are all brilliant. Giant robots fighting other giant robots, very nice customisation when it comes to building your mechs - you can choose what parts to install from a list of everything from arms to cpus. One of my most favourite games, I highly recomend it.

Just don't play the latest one.

I'm considering making a 'Let's Play' for the GBA version.

A brilliant game, I agree.
Endgame however becomes a bit less tactical (Codeword: Panzerklein), since everybody gets to be a little killing machine, without much variation.
I'd still want to replay it on the highest difficulty sometimes. The medical/wounding system get's really fascinating that way.

Freedom Force and its sequel are both excellent real time tactics games with RPG elements.

The original Shining Force was a pretty good tactical RPG. I dunno about the rest of the series, though. I've got Shining Force EXA and it's a generic RPG.
