Is anyone else experiencing an extreme lack of anvils on embark?

Acutally, it seems that in 0.31.19 there's a lot more variability in what you can/can't take. For me I've had a civ that CAN'T take ANY drinks on embark. Another that can only take rum , no bit. coal OR lignite and no anvils. No cheap/quick weapons for me :(. I'm not sure if it's to do with all the extra thingies we now can take (clay, eggs etc) or if it's just meant to be this way.

It's really making me think that the quick farming (no-mud-needed) thing isn't a bug. You sort of need to grow your own now.

No more "one-embark-profile-for-anywhere" thing that I used to do in 0.31.18. Oh well.

There's actually a discussion going on in the "When is a surge suppressor" thread.

When I genned my second fort in 31.16 (or 31.18, don't remember) I had no underground seeds and no drinks on embark. I had to resort to gathering, and brewing my own before breaching caverns. It was a minor challenge. But no anvil? That's just crazy. I think it means no anvil from dwarven caravan too.

So, your Mountainhome forged so much they ran out of metal? Explains why they are desperate enough to send seven barely competent dwarves to the middle of nowhere to search for more.

You don't need ores if you have goblins. Just lure them in, close the gate and drown them. Free iron.

My civ didn't have any anvils available in the list, but I was assigned a steel anvil as part of the default gear. Which isn't that great, since it tied up 300 embark points that I would have liked to spend on a doctor. I would have preferred an iron one.

By the way, I design table top RPGs and other games. You can buy some.

I might have to test this. The default (or even the standard "Prepare for Journey Carefully") profile does seem to get you your anvil regardless. I'll reload some worlds I had with no anvil availability to test it.

I'm going to cry if I can't just save my embark profile that's hideously min/maxed for laziness. Civ material availability is one thing, messing around with 2 dwarfbuck meats for every embark is another.

Meh, sorry for the double post.

Here's my first generated world with 0.31.19. The civilisation's name is "The Treaty of Drilling". I feel sorry for the poor sods, but they made it through world gen. I'm going to read up legends a bit just to see what went wrong and how.

Ok, so they've got anvils. Nice, expensive steel ones. BUT.....

They don't drink underground booze. They don't farm dwarven plants. They don't take metal ores other than galena. They don't use bit. coal or lignite for fuel. Thank god they still like metal bars (I guess they export metal, just not ore. Or magic metal bars out of their elven little arses. How do you get steel without the components?).

For a challenge, give them a go. It's not a remarkable world (AFAIK) but the civ restrictions make it a very weird place to start in compared to a normal game.

Here's the file on DFFD. Just extract it and drop the contents into your \data\save\ folder.

Those poor sober dwarves. Or mead FTW.......
