Excellent utility, but switching the saved game back and forth from 40d and 40d11 is a pain. It will be nice if/when you have time to update. :)

now for the one statement that will prevent idiots from downloading this, bartavelle is a hacker, I've found tools by him(or someone who uses his same username) on packetstorm.
:D I'm proud to have found this(no reason)

I suppose you mean hacker negatively here. You should look what the tools are for.

There are not many bad guys who use password crackers, because if you can get passwords hashes, you already own the system or application. It's mostly for security consultants who need to produce pie charts in powerpoint slides.

The bad guys will either own your computer or the server and capture your passwords in clear text.

I know, I just wanted to get the superstitious morons who don't understand the difference between 'Virus' and 'Memory Editor' worked up.
by the way, I respect you man, your app is how I got started with Dwarf Fortress.

Just now when I started DC 0.15, dfcompanion_prototype.exe attempted to connect to the internet.
Why would it do that?

Is it really involved to make an update for 40d16? I ask because I honestly don't know.

I already answered a few posts earlier. Not only the offsets to structures are different, but the dwarf structure offsets have moved too.

Ahh I see, well if you do get around to it, it would be appreciated. If not, no harm done. :)

I'd rather work right now on a more robust version of this, that will not require python but will require windows and .NET (just like many utilities).

Once this is working, it would help me update the python version in case there is demand.

Why, why, WHY?!

Rhetorical whinge aside... That so many utilities out there require Windows and .NET is a problem, not a model to emulate. With the 40d## series, DF has become more and more accessible to people not running Windows, but the community tools are going the opposite direction!

Getting Python running under Windows wasn't a big deal for me. Getting .NET support under Linux? Or Mac? No idea where to begin.

Moving farther away from portability is... disappointing.

That's a question for Valdemar.
Bartavelle has no control over the EXE version.
There's no code involving the internet in the Python version, so..
