What about if somebody puts together a bunch of files with various values (in case of more than one extra language) and posts it to the DFFD? Would the package care if I swapped one .pyc file for another with a single value changed?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I honestly have no clue. My knowledge of python's internals are really limited.

I get this error whenever I try to run Dwarf Companion. I'm using the executable version with a new copy of 40d. 40d, not 40d#.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I get similar errors when using the Python version.

Are you actually in the game?  Running it while in the main menu will result in it not working.  The 0 words loaded makes me think you're not in a fortress or following an adventurer.

First run Dwarf Fortress, and load your game. It won't work otherwise.
Yeah, it works now. Thank you. I was so worried about the dependencies while I was trying to get the Python version to work that I ignored that section of the instructions.

Awesome utility.

Now I have a new problem, I click the 'only dwarves' button and 'alive creatures' and it stays at only dwarves now. Help, I'm being sieged.

What is this?! It worked when I first downloaded it an hour and a half ago!

This tool is great.  Is there any plan to include the editing of personality and preferences?

And will the names of participants be reinserted into combat reports in a future update?

I'm not working much on combat reports as it will be native in the next version, according to some changelog published a while back.

I have a request of being able to stop forest fires since I have never ending giant fire breathing spiders lighting the forest.
How many times are we going to get requests to edit the terrain/tiles with a creature editor?
I swear.
Use Tweak.

Exactly. I wrote this tool at first because i was dissatisfied with the DF UI, and particulary I didn't like being unable to find unhappy dwarves. Still, I'll try to include everything known or that I find about the game in the code, and it should be accessible by scripting. For the brave of course :)

I've downloaded this for 40d13 per instructions on the wiki, and even though I've installed and reinstalled the GTK packages several times, I keep getting the error that "libglb-2.0-0.dll was not found." I even tried downloading the culprit dll file and putting it directly into python's dll file, but that didn't work; with my severely limited understanding of Python, I was wondering how to fix this.

Umm... this doesn't work with the 40d# versions.

Also, it looks like you skipped a step or two. Try uninstalling all the python stuff and starting over. (I know, it's frustrating...)

Oh, I was under the impression that the python and GTK packages were a process for making it work with 40d#. In that case, it won't work no matter what I do; Python is running fine, though.

Python + the GTK setup are the required libraries to compile it, thus allowing it to run at all.
It does not, unless the offsets haven't changed, which is unlikely, work under any new version ever until Bartavelle releases an update.

Speaking of which, is he still around to make an attempt at updating it to any of the d#? (Yes, I saw his post directly adding to mine above) My judgment tells me we've still got a long time to wait for any big release from Toady.

I try some times, when I have a bit of free time. But the dXX versions are not just minor modifications to the rendering engine. For example, the creature structure offsets differ. It is a lot of work, and I don't have time right now. I'm however working on a different approach that would help me gain a lot of time, injecting code in DF and reusing native functions to parse the structure. It is way faster too and would not require python, in the end. It's *far* from being finished.
