I can't get Companion to work with 40d11.  I set up dwarfdbg.py to look for "Dwarf Fortress.exe" instead of "dwarfort.exe" but it still claims the game isn't running.  Help?

You need the right offsets for where it looks for things.  Nobody knows 40d11's completely.  It won't work.

I discovered a way to use DC to allow an unlimited amount of people to join you in adventure mode.

First you get as many people to join you as the game will allow, then go into each of the dwarfs window in DC and check the Dead? box. The dwarves will disappear and allow you to recruit more dwarves.

Keep repeating this process, and when you feel you have enough dwarves, go to each of the dwarves you Dead?'ed and uncheck the box. All the dwarves you recruited will still be in your team and in perfect fighting order.

Here is a pack of wolves ambushing my 17 dwarf team:

That is beyond epic.  You could recruit entire armies that way.  Hooray, sieging completely obliterating elven forest retreats!

Not to mention we don't even know how the savegames are encrypted/parsed in the actual game, making anything of that sort incredibly hacky and dangerous to your games.
DF saves are encrypted more securely than CIA+credit card companies+nuclear launch codes combined. or maybe they don't do anything and are designed to fool would be cheaters.

i think the problem is that DF saves represent the ENTIRE WORLD and all its history, and that finding individual unit stats in them is very difficult.  im just guessing, though.

i kind of doubt that its encrypted in any way, theres no real point in preventing cheating in a single player game and the mod-friendlyness and willingness to accomodate third party interfaces suggests that the great amphibian god of bay12games dosent care what we do with the saves.

edit:  that said, I'm pretty sure that MR Adams is actually DOCTOR Adams, and his particular PhD is in mathematics.  i wouldnt put it past him to have slapped some arcane encryption algorithm on the saves.

AFAIK they are just compressed.

Either way, somebody needs to get cracking on a new version.  Not me, though, I'm rubbish at it.

Pretty please?

Why can't I make a mood require metal? Or shell? Or anything aside from the first four choices? Heck, shells aren't even selectable, let alone don't work...

Well, it's not exactly a finished tool, you can't even edit thoughts/relationships.

Very easy to do, you can set any dwarves you want as being hostile, zombies, from another civ, etc, etc.
But you still won't be able to control the hostile dwarves.

Oh. Then is there any other way to edit artifacts?
