server hands with dc?
« Reply #450 on: September 02, 2008, 05:32:17 am »

to remove a crap artifact weapon from a dwarf, i had the idea to use companions hurt to server his hands of and heal him after.
is there a way to do so? when i use the hurt button, he will be doomed and die short after no matter how often i heal him. altrough he will drop the weapon, this is a bit more than what i head in mind.
so is there a way to hurt specific body parts with dc i just overseen or is it impossible?

You can do it by scripting, but it is not possible in the interface.

On the old version of autodesignate, when used with the new version of the companion you have posted, i get:

<snip long post>

Are you using the exe version? It can't be used with the exe version, only the regular one. The updated dwarfdbg.py is no longer necessary; that was a quick workaround to an oversight that was fixed in Dwarf Companion core.

I will try compiling the macro into the exe package, so it has a separate executable you can launch. Check back soon.

Edit: Here it is. It still has all the same bugs as the separate ones.

to remove a crap artifact weapon from a dwarf
Normally to force equipment removal you can simply find the item in their inventory and mark it to be dumped. I don't know for sure that it works with artifacts, but it's worth a shot.

Couldn't you also just tell them to fight unarmed to get them to put away the weapon, then forbid it once they drop it?

I'm glad all the DF players are not living in one district. It'd be the most dangerous district for the whole world.
Actually, it'd be the most dangerous district in hundreds of thousands of worlds, starting with 'Xah Rabin' The Dimension of Omen.

dwarfs wont drop a artifact weapon ever, no matter what weapon you assign them in the M ilitary W eapon screen.
also, you can not dump an artifact.

however, i guess it wuld not worth putting in big afforts  to modify dc to allow specific wounds to specific body parts. i dont know if it wuld be much work, but i  think it wuld be, and atificial weapons can easily be forbid before a dwarf picks them up.

And before anybody asks, it still works with the latest version, no changes needed.

I've been noticing that it's setting my dwarves to 65535 exhaustion.  As soon as I apply changes, I get:
Urist McEdited cancels Job: Unconscious.
This was in 40c, have yet to test with 40d.
Although thanks for being on the ball and making sure it works with the new one before anybody asks.

Well I should have been more specific : it still works the same, it has the same bugs :)

I'll investiguate this exhaustion problem, but could you confirm that you alter the dwarves states while the game is paused? If you do not, you might set it to 0 just before the program decrements the value to -1, and as it's unsigned, it becomes 0xffffffff ...

I do it while it's paused, because if I don't, something bad always happens.
Something bad as in wildlife killing a dwarf.  It has happened to me before.

So, how do I use this tool to change a dwarf's name? I figured out how to push the button by their name, and can get it changed alright, but as soon as I  exit out of the game or whatever when I start it up again the name goes back to whatever it was before. What am I doing wrong?
