Just run it from the command line (start / run / cmd.exe) and you should be able to read the message.

Same here. I tried it with an old version and it still works so it's not my doing. Also it's the same for an old save or a new world fortress.

WindowsError: [Error 998] Invalid access to memory location.

Valdemar you crossed your links when putting the two files up, they point to the other one to what is described.

I get the same error as Mlittle when trying to run companion with the newest df version.

If "import gtk" doesn't work, it usually means that you didn't install "pygtk" properly. Either you did not install it, or you have several instances of python installed at once.

For the invalid memory thing, it would be helpful to have the whole error message so that i can see where it is happening.

Companion worked fine in other versions of DF.

Then I have no clue about why it doesn't work anymore ... you are using -python25?

And for the memory errors, I just noticed a new version was out! It is not compatible with tbe "new" 38a (176.38a) for now.

New version at this place, only the -any version for now, and only works with the new version. The creature structure has changed, so let me know if it works!
