i would be fine with it with 2 conditions:
1) guaranteed fucktons of iron or copper and a few handfuls of a half dozen other ores.
2) Easier trading, i don't want to fuck about setting the same trade options every year, and they need to bring more of what i want.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

you would be screwed if you needed to make magma safe pumps when you need iron to make corkscrews and nickel or something to make pipes :/
Glass.

You can always make a macro to quickly set up the trade levels for you, and apparently the caravan arc, that we're working through now, is completely overhauling the trade system.  So, we may expect this to happen.

I think the density of metal ores should be a world gen parameter.

Macros are easy, you just have to realize that it records your actions exactly, and replays them key for key.  so, if you designate a small wall to be build, and record that, you can easily do it again.  On the other hand, if you go into the military screen and play the same macro, it'll start reassigning uniforms and schedules, because a macro doesn't pay attention to where it's playing, just the keystrokes.

And remember to stop recording them before you save and put in the name. I've named it while the macro was still running and strange things happened. :P

Map with both shallow and deep metals:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

so despite having both shallow and deep as plural, you only had 2 types of metal total? ouch... (I'm assuming that adamantine doesn't count under the "metals")

My site has hematite, magnetite, and galena based upon what I've found so far.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

Based on the available evidence, I can conclude that without a tag, there will be no metal.  With a tag, Armok gathers a set of dice and you roll for LCK, determining if there is any metal or if the tags lie.

Shallow and deep metals, no flux listed, got:

Limonite
Magnetite
Tetrahedrite
Gold
Candy

aaaaand Marble.

Winner!

New caverns are cool.. Dunno if it's random but mine are much less labyrinthine.

This sounds like a good time to use saves made in .18 and update them?

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

This sounds like an amazing idea.  Gen worlds in .18 and load them in .19 for all the nuggety goodness.

Would that allow you to still get the new .19 features?
