I think this happens because each 'bee' has a value in a hive, of, say, 1 Urist.

Look at the contents of your hive with 'T'

Tha's alotta bees, man.

Has anyone tried weaponizing them yet? It would be comical to lock a bronze colossus up in a room with several hives full of bees, let it smash the hives, and see how long it takes the bees to kill the colossus.

The bee stings the Bronze Colossus in the face with its Stinger.  The attack is deflected by the Skin!

This could be really useful. Somebody should mod them not to die when they sting, so they can be reusable

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

Apparently, there's so many bees, it's irrelevant.  Let them be killed, there's another dozen hives in the back.

Now, if hives can be linked to a lever, and deconstruct on demand...

I find it interesting that nobody has asked if the OP has an ☼adamantine weapon☼ yet. Then again, I haven't played the new version.

Yes, a bee is generally considered a bug.
...Wait, that wasn't your question.

Actually, no, only insects of the order hemiptera are considered true bugs, though some would further restrict that name to the sub-order heteroptera.  Bees, wasps and ants all belong to the order hymenoptera, which is quite separate.

For those who have forgotten their Latin, hemiptera means "half wing", heteroptera means "different wing" and hymenoptera means "membrane wing."  Once you realize that the "ptera" part is from "pteron", which means wing, you can learn a few things you might not know about some other Latin-derived English words.  In other words, yeah, the name of that other thing is just "membrane".

This concludes your daily dose of pedantry and entomology.

Oh thanks, my pedantry levels were running low.  The doctor said I should do something about it, but my day is just too busy to go over to the book store and listen to the coffee-drinkers...

That would be an awesome thing if you could make them deadly bees and sell them to the elves.

"Yeah, we've got a special surprise in there for you.  Just don't open it until you get home...."

This is me wishing I had internet access on my DF capable computer.

Cuz I have this vision. Of a twisty windy maze of fortifications with all walls surrounded by beehives, and any enemy who passes near gets swarmed by millions of bees. who fly back throught he fortifications into their hives once the siege/immigrants are all dead.

Anyone know how to use the bee's honey? I've got some in jugs but can't seem to do anything with them.
