Incinerator & Trash Stockpile Flag
« on: February 16, 2011, 01:07:39 pm »

A combo workshop and special stockpile flag:

Incinerator is an official Dwarven Atom Smasher in the sense that objects placed in a stockpile with an additional flag of "Incinerate" will be taken from the stockpile and obliterated in the incinerator (task wise rather then the whole Pit over lava). This can be coupled then with a stockpile for Finished Goods with Quality set to minimum thus allowing you to burn useless crap (yet another suggestion on my war against MCC objects (More cheap crap)).

In the future perhaps when minecarts and stuff are up and running the incinerator can be at the end of a line for an automated garbage burner.

The special Incinerator flag could just as easily be called "Trash" flag and a wide variety of actions could be taken. For instance defining a Pit with a paired Trash toggle would result in taking objects from the stockpile marked Trash and throwing them in the nearest pit that has the Trash flag.

This "Trash" flag could be used with catapults (using trash as ammo) or smelters (setting a smelter with the trash flag would use metal objects in a trash flagged stockpile for instance for the Melt Metal Object).

I suggested a long time ago that we be able to urn things for small amounts of ash in a wood furnace (much like we do with [M]elt) designated items.  Needless to say, I like the general idea.

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

It was the original intention of the dump marker before that one got hijacked to allow a bit of direct control over items without stockpiles.

We could use the (m)elt marker for that purpose. After all, items marked like that are deemed only valuable for their material value: metal stuff can be melted, cloth can be ripped apart for threads or burned, wood can be burned or turned into smaller crafts, stone can be crafted into smaller crafts or crushed into gravel/sand/dust, etc.
