I'm noticing a disturbing lack of any of the Touhou games here... Say what you like about the fanbase, and I'm not too sure about the bullet hell ones, but the fighting games were damn good.

Aren't touhou games non-free in japan, though? Pretty sure they're sold somewhere or other, at least the non-fangame ones.

I've never heard of them being sold in Japan, but doing a quick search indicates that they probably are. However, the English translations are considered fan works and are 100% free (or at least, I believe that is how it works.) The only way I can see them becoming non-free is if they're ever licensed, but that seems unlikely. It's understandable if the fact that they're sold in Japan disqualifies them from the list, though. It's just a shame.

Non-free.  Theoretically, you can buy them online, but good luck actually finding much if you don't speak Japanese (on the other hand, it looks like JBOX is getting better running down that page, though I've never used it myself).  You might be able to download the translation patches themselves for free, but the games that you apply the patches to are not free, and any "pre-applied" packages would technically be piracy unless you paid for whichever game the patch was applied to.
