LCS on a mac?
« on: February 15, 2011, 04:51:55 pm »

Hey there, I've been watching Liberal Crime squad  LP's for a while now and I'm wondering if I could play LCS on a mac.
If want to know, using crossover games doesn't work.

Well... sort of. It depends on how technically adept you are. There's no Mac download, but if you were to compile the game from its source code, it should be compatible.

I downloaded and installed Wine on my mac. It doesn't work for any other game, but it saved me trouble in the long run,

I've built LCS on my computer before though, and I can send over a copy if you're unable to do so. There's a few small issues with a Mac build, but they're not insurmountable.

Alright, I've uploaded to rapidshare for the time being. Download!.

Three things to note:
1) You'll need to open crimesquad with the terminal. Double clicking on it will not work. If you are unfamiliar with terminal, this guide may help. Navigate to the lcsmac directory and type ./crimesquad which will open the program.

2) Set your terminal colors to black background with white text before you open the program. The "pro" preset scheme will probably work. It'll makes some things display better.

3) For some reason, the game still can't find sitemaps.txt. I'm not exactly sure why, since it can find all the other files; maybe someone on the boards who knows more can explain it. Anyway, this means that some of the sites (apartments come to mind) will have broken security, and it may make the game too easy.

Don't hesitate to ask if you're having problems.

I seem to recall that the solution was to put the sitemaps file in the main directory.

I already tried that, and sadly, it didn't work.

I think you need to convert the line endings on sitemaps.txt to Mac line endings for it to read correctly.

1. If you want a UNIX box, then use linux.
2. If you want a UNIX box, then use linux.
3. Just compile it from source, it isnt to hard.

\n (Line Feed) for Unix
\r (Carriage Return) for Mac
\r\n (Carriage Return, Line Feed) for Windows

Converting between them is annoying. You can use the flip utility if you want. There are other ways, but they depend on what editors you use and whether you know how to manipulate binary files.

Shalom, my firebrand. Operating system hate may be directed to general discussion.
