i'm not sure that's the case, i think that happens when a lone migrant arrives instead of a few dozens he gets to get his name and title on the announcement

I've never seen a lone migrant get an announcement. I have seen a few liaisons referred to by profession.

Perhaps the liaison has his highest skill in trapping and not the corresponding liaison skill, whatever it is. Kind of like when you make that legendary potash maker do masonry instead.

If the original liaison gets killed, he will be replaced by another dwarf, but will be referred to in the aforementioned announcement by his former profession rather than as an outpost liaison. Toady mentioned it on the thingy once.
